Keep up the good work liger! Heaven forbid you disagree with Swerve in hip personal forum. He DOES NOT like to hear opposing points of view. Particularly if he’s wrong.

If you don’t have any contribution to make except repeating the same gibberish, I suggest you refrain from wasting bandwidth.

    Same with you. Friend.

Wow……after last week people here STILL believe that Britain is going to end up with an aircraft carrier. Its actualy nice to see such misplaced optimism.

Why discuss it? CVF will NOT be an aircraft carrier. It will be a hospital ship.

I like their 18000 ton DDH. Not bad for a Destroyer.

When the 3 branches of the British military are unifed next year, will it then be the “”royal Armed Forces” or just “British Armed Forces”? Or just “British Forces”?

It would probably be best to stop refering to QE as an “aircraft carrier” and start calling her what she will probably end up being: Hospital/Disaster relief ship.:(

Don’t talk me of labour on defence, because if i think to what happened to the Royal Navy in the last 15 years, i want to either vomit or become murderous.

And ultimately, the MOD is now paying the price of being forced to fight two wars at once with peacetime budget while the nation as a whole made TONS of debts to double NHS spending, Aid and to increase massively other departments’ budgets.

Labour or Tory, (libDems better not even mention them) at the end of the day who pays is always defence.

Think about whats going to happen to the RN in the next 15 years. Indeed the whole British armed forces. Coast Guard. Air Police Force. Disaster Relief/Humanitarian mission force!

Well……If Ark Royal goes now…….that gives plenty of time to pass her name on to PoW.

    Mod Edit: Quoted post removed

If its so tedious…..leave. You have not changed anyones mind here. All that you are accomplishing is pure Monty Pythonesq argument. I guess its fun to read, but, really, nobodys opinions are being changed. I DO like the personal insults tho…….

We didn’t need to fight in Korea, or Malaya, or Kenya, or Aden

    Exactly – we didn’t.

Which is precisely the strong point of carriers… the ability to flexibly respond to whatever comes up

…and as I said that’s a list of infinite possibilities. Britain can’t afford to equip for every imaginable contingency. Far better (and affordable) to equip for the key risks. No point in funding carriers to conduct squabbles around the world when we have to leave the UK without any credible defence at all. But that’s precisely what Fox is going to achieve.

the moment the contracts where signed they where going to be built in one form or another as it is more expensive to cut them than to build them

…and what you fail to grasp is that the cost of operating them (and purchasing/operating the air assets on them) is out of all proportion to the cost of buying them or cancelling them. Britain would save a fortune by simply writing-off the carriers.

By the same logic, Britain didnt NEED to fight in WW2. Germany didnt attack Britain, they attacked Poland. Hitler did NOT want a war with England. However, Britain did the right thing and declared war.

The similarities in the current British Defence situation with the 1920s early 1930s is remarkable. Lets hope the “turnaround” (for want of a better word) of the situation this time doesn’t mirror then.

I cant see that happening as long as the RAF owns the aircraft. The training is just too specialised.

That is the most rediculous(sp) argument anyone has ever put forward and I,m really sick of it! About 90% of all weapons in western inventories were developed during the “Cold War”! So after 1992 we should have scraped just about EVERY weapon system we had?!
