Don’t the RAF still have the Sentry for AEW?

    I wonder if this true…..

It does, but for how long!!

Could someone please tell me why they will never fly? is it due to mechanical issues or bureaucratic BS?

The latter would fit the bill as the CAA will not sanction Lightnings to fly, complicated aircraft seemingly.

Great job. It must take an enormous amount of resources to make it happen. I would love to see it fly again one day.
    Cheers.

As has been told many times before, there is no chance at all of any of the Bruntingthorpe Lightnings being able to fly. Enjoy the fast taxi runs while you can is all I can say on the matter.

It sure is some accomplishment the LPG have achieved and considering the years that have gone by since the Lightnings were in service, a tribute to the dedication of the team. It is only in the last 2 years that I got involved with the group and only occasionally get up to Bruntingthorpe, but it’s a privilege to be able to contribute to the care such iconic aircraft.

Maybe the LA could raise funds for repair on the hangar under the previso that 724 can be put under cover once the damage is repaired…..

    Worth a shot??

Now that is a good idea

Have been asked by the Lightning Association to let folks know that Charles Ross’ health deteriorated suddenly whilst on holiday in France and that he has been admitted to the ICU of a specialist cardio-thoracic unit there.

Charles family had specifically asked any phone calls reference Lightnings or his Lightning Museum visits be curtailed at this time, to allow them to deal with their situation.

The Lightning association Executive and members wish Charles all the best for a speedy recovery and send our best wishes to his wife Jacqueline and son Alex at this very worrying time.

Anyone wishing to send get well messages can do so by email from our site Contacts page or our Blog.

Updates will be posted on the site news page when available. (Webmaster)

I think all this speculation of what and what not we should have done in the evacuation is lost on reality, it is not the responsibility of the UK taxpayer to fund these situations, the oil companies are responsible for their employees and their safe passage home, it was their own choice to work in Libya, earning megabucks, they must have the funds to buy a flight home at the very least.

Good to see you looking on the bright side heading21, hope you feel better for having posted these images. Perhaps you could volunteer your services to rectify the situation instead. Very easy to moan, but harder to help sort out the problem.

Thanks for the link, I have bookmarked it. It would be great if there were more open days and fundraising events for the lightning at Binbrook! I sincerely hope that one day a building of some sort big enough to house both airframes will be built and a museum created to preserve the memory of RAF Binbrook for future generations!

It would indeed be great to have the Lightning tucked up in a warmer environment and a Museum would be an excellent feature. Charles Ross does have a collection of Lightning memorabilia at his home and can be viewed by prior arrangement, but of course to have everything in one place would be the dream I guess.

I’m over the moon with this information and look forward to regular updates. Maybe an open day would be forth coming sometime this year 😉

Many thanks, I can only add that updates will be posted as and when Charles or others submit new material for me to add to the site. I do hope there will be some sort of Binbrook gathering this year. As I only do the site side of things, it will be up to Lightning enthusiasts to send material for inclusion, there are plenty links on the site asking for volunteers and stories, just hope the quest will bring some new material.

    Web site

Have just re-written the Lightning Association website and re-launched it today, mostly copied from the old site for the moment, but Charles is in the process of re-writing an update to let folks know what the future holds and will be added to the site when completed. Have added a blog to the site for comments if anyone wants to post a message.
