Well I was only talking a out the Mildenhall incident and I can tell you the aeroplane was serviceable i.e. no brake issues.
And as an aside, the rudders on the Lanc are completely masked by the wing with the tail down. My uncle who flew Lancs said to me ” only a bloody good pilot or an idiot tries to 3 point one of them” he had 57 trips, plus hundreds of hours instructing on Lancs under his belt. He never 3 pointed one, “I’m not an idiot he said”

bentwaters and the cold war museum
it wasnt any of the above, it was caused by landing with a tailwind componant, therefore losing any authority on the tail whatsoever. i was there, i had recently just left BBMF and was working with the Fighter collection, as this happened i had just finished running the engine on the P47 and i heard the commotion over the 47s engine running down..

Why Elvington?
I have to agree, Elvington is the best place for it. please not Duxford, theres more to aviation than Duxford. I find it such a bloody depressing place now. The heart and soul has gone out of Duxford…..

they can come n start my Merlin up for that money, I’d even wash there hands afterwards,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
It doesnt matter, time ex or not, it wont last long
Mick.
Hmmmm – Not sure mr Rolls n mr Royce would approve. Not the best way to ensure the longevity of your Merlin. Still what would I know about it,,,,,,,,
Mick.
In short, overall, it costs less*.
(*or maybe , more importantly, appears to cost less)

if memory serves me right, ABs Merlin 45 is in RR heritage trust now. i think its engine was changed prior to delivery to BBMF.

His range would be somewhat less with undercarriage down.
Then he could land at an airfield that has no avgas – Still all will be well, just like the hurricane wheels up that never happened………………….
Cosby was wasnt it 😉

It did make me chuckle.
But with out health and safety where would we be.

Heaven forbid we’ve have to use common sense again –
Something sadly missing these days.
Strange isn’t it, my uncle Geoff sat 2 feet away from a whole panel full of RPM boost gauges, oil pressure n temp gauges for hours at a time. And not only that, but some kind chaps over Germany threw lumps of hot steel at him and his crew mates. Yes he was a Lanc pilot. And would you believe he’s still in good health and reading this thread with despair!!!
