Surely it is Jeffrey Quill’s favourite. The Mk V with the short, low altitude, big engine.
The Mk XII. 🙂

I’m with you, a Mk XII. Any body got a MkV and a short Griffon I could use ha ha.

The only mod BBMF has carried out is to replace all the double glazed perspex units ie windscreen, canopy and rear glazing with single skin units this was done many years ago probably because at that time nobody was prepared to manufacture the original units given that the a/c are no longer pressurised. The canopy however, originally was never fitted with leading edge metalwork. So the canopy is not highly modified it is just single skin rather than double skin all the dimensions are the same, they still use the original rails and locking mechanism.
You got there before me Fuffy old mate –
Ah yes of course……they’re the ones that usually mark their territory! :p
See T2 at Dx

Wake up TT she’s been at DX since last January and is now fully overhauled and repainted. She will be spending some time over here as part of Spitfire Ltd’s collection so you should all be able to catch her in the summer. “Will it be at………..?” 🙂
Oh I can’t wait, another Spitfire at Legends 🙂

I would love to see this happen but I just can’t see it, not only because of the costs ect but what about insurence? With all of the outragous rules being brought in it looks imposable that any large bomber would come over.
There is no way that the BBMF would go there as far as I know the Lanc has never displayed outside the UK.Phill
We used to go the Holland to comemorate opperation Manna..
Last time I looked Holland was outside the UK.. 🙂

Hi all,
Like most museums we only get more exhibits, and nothing is lost. This means we have a storage problem. Although we have the good fortune of having an old fortress to house our museum. The entrances of the rooms are only just wide enough to display in-line engines. But having three or four Merlins of the same aircraft isn’t very efficient for display purposes.
This means we are looking into possibilties to enable interested parties to obtain RR Merlin engines (mostly XX/22 series as used in lancaster and Halifax) for a reasonable price. These have been recovered from clay/peat ground but are generally in very good condtion for static restoration (not to airworthy).
This isn’t a plug but more a way to find good homes for these items.
If anyone is interested please pm meCheers

The best find for me, would be the return of my Fathers Rolls Royce Merlin tool kit. This was taken by some THIEVING SCUM-BAG a couple of years ago. The sad thing is, I was using them to Merlins running, I should think the THIEVING SCUM-BAG, is one of those nice collector type people who have no idea of the personal value those tools have to me. It’s not the money, it’s the fact they belonged to my Dad.
Still I can only hope.
I think I might have found the perfect thanks we can give the cnuts who thought this was the best way to while away the time…
THATS TO GOOD – JUST BURN EM ALONG WITH ANY OTHER SCUM
They are the next generation of volunteers, restorers, collectors – to be encouraged not derided.
at least they were at Duxford and not Alton Towers
At least they were asking questions and not plugged into ipods or snorting coke !!
give em chance

Just back from do at Lincoln Cathedral. Lincs County Council hosted meal at the Chapter House for the BBMf 50th, which was started by a flypast from the old girl at 6 .15pm on the dot.
Nice meal by the way!!!!!
You don’t need any more food you fat git 🙂
I suggest this as an alternative:
Load it up as well and drop the bloody lot on the T*****S in Downing Street.

Hmm, again, many thanks for all replies. I’m even more intrigued now! I say it was like a Mk1 but I didn’t take in tail fin shape, nose length etc. It was def green and brown in colour and had no squadron codes. What sheme is ‘7350 currently wearing? If someone could post a link or links with pictures of all airworthy spits in their current schemes, I’d be able to identify it! I can’t get over the pure brilliance of it just appearing low over the trees out of nowhere and then doing what it did for the next few minutes.
P7 has green / brown with grey codes. Hard to see in bright sunlight..
