Open Cockpits
Evening
Three or 4 years ago I went along to Cosford whilst at the IPMS Telford show. At that time it was possible to sit in their Gnat, a Hunter cockpit, a Bucc cockpit and walk through the Vulcan cockpit.
Very enjoyable if a tight squeeeze in the Gnat and a sad loss if no longer possible.

I recall her being introduced to the crowd at a Shuttleworth display back in he late 70s.
No re-enactment though.

Andy Mac – Tangmere’s article in ‘After The Battle’ mag – issue 125 – has a transcript of the Radio Log between 1101 and 1224
Andy – thanks for the reply ….
as you say, alas we can only speculate.

Andy – thanks for the reply but another question ….
given that DB, whilst a POW, wrote to Thelma with the collision story, is there any known reason WHY he would tell her that he was in a collision rather than shot down?
Had he been in the same camp as Buck by the time he wrote to Thelma? If so it seems inconceivable that they hadn’t discussed what happened on the day they were both downed.

Is it known WHEN and WHY DB changed his story ..
from being shot down (when meeting Galland in 41) to a collision (Brickhill c.1954)?
I have read the full thread over the course of last couple of weeks but the question only arose today when chatting about the TV prog with a chap at work and I can’t recall if this has been mentioned.

Out of interest, I wonder how long would it have taken the so called unsinkable capital ships to get from the Orkneys or whereverr they were to the Kent coast if the invasion fleet had sailed.
Having read widely on the period I’ve always considered that the Germans had not really the shipping resources to mount a significant cross channel invasion, including in July – Oct 1940. They’d have needed a great deal of good fortune and an almost total lack of resistance to be confident of successs.

I should make it 5 then…
I’ll be going – unless it’s tipping it down.

I think that the small triangle (pyramid) above the tailplane points to this being an FE2, probably an FE2b.

Frog (and other) Wyverns
The ex FROG 1/72 scale Wyvern still shows up from time to time in sundry Eastern European mouldings in plastic that ranges from OK to awful.
In 1/48 there’s an excellent vacform version by Dynavector and an injection kit by Trumpeter. I’ve both these kits waiting in the ‘to do’ pile that is alas growing at least twice as fast as the ‘made’ pile.
