Probably don’t strictly qualify as ‘warbirds’ though they certainly were
– B52s and B47s flying round the clock from Brize Norton in the early ’50s.
– a flight of Avro Lincolns at RAF Lindholme B of B airdisplay in 1956, just before they went out of service.

Paint as conservation
Peter
I don’t know that paint is much more than a tempory cosmetic solution. that can hide a multitude of problems.
My experience is limited to buying bodged up cars but surely the principle is the same.
Just my opinion but judging by the time it’s taken Duxford to repaint the Bucc it’s possibly not as easy a job as you imply.

Conservation
Mike
Given unlimited funds and unlimited hanger space no doubt Duxford would be mor than delighted to restore and then house in a controlled environment every airframe they can get hold of.
Alas funds and space are limited, meaning that unwelcome and unpopular decisions have to made as to what gets conserved and what (alas) gets left out in the cold.

Harrier on the M4 28 July 04
Evening all
Returning westwardsfrom a meeting in Reading yesterday at about 3pm near Swindon, I saw a Harrier or SHAR stripped fuselage on a trailer heading East.
Could this have been the Flixton one or if not, any ideas ?

Thanks for the link to the earlier thread which I see to have forgotten.
My shots from last Sunday match yours virtually like for like so not much seems to have happened in the last 6 months or so.

DANOH – guide to making vacuform kits
Hi
I wont pretend that I fiind vacform models as eay as most injection kits but if you get a decent make (e.g. Dynavector, Aeroclub), they’re certainly buildable. I’ve got a Dynavector 1/48 Scimiter o the go at the moment.
For a ‘how to’ guide, I don’t know of a better one than this link to John Adams (Mr Aeroclub) http://www.aeroclub-models.com/files/VacForm.pdf

I bought a Nikon 2100 specifically for RIAT last year. Marvellous for static shots but fairly useless for shooting anything airborne, tho I did get some reasonable shots of landing or taxiing aircraft. I used my SLR for the airborne shots.
I bought a 128 card which held in excess of 150 shots at RIAT but used at least 6 nicads plus 4 or so ordinary batteries.
I’m now thinkng of getting a Canon D300.

Whirlwind Kits – reply to Wombat
Classic Airframes do quite a nice 1/48 scale which is still available from Hannants. It’s a ‘limited run’ kit so not as straightforward a build as say Tamiya.
If interested, see the illustrated build article at –
