You should be able to view it OK without a Facebook account. Just google “Comet Racer Project Facebook” or similar and it should appear as one of the results
I always find that sort of thing fascinating. You can find a lot of similar pictures of WW2 artifacts, mostly Russian…
FWIW The other two runners are at Wellesbourne and Southend…. neither is likely to be a candidate for flight unless you have the backing of a particularly generous Russian Billionaire – and as has been mentioned – can find some more engines.
Wellesbourne’s example is facing a somewhat uncertain future at present I think. Would be such a shame if it’s not able to run in future.
A quote from the Guardian, just after the first party leaders debate prior to the 2010 General Election:
“Nick Clegg has surged into contention as a potential prime minister, according to a Guardian/ICM poll carried out following last night’s TV leaders’ debate.
A quarter of voters who watched the three leaders on the ITV programme say they will switch their vote, with most changing to theLiberal Democrats.”
And from the Telegraph….
“Exploiting his equal billing with the two main party leaders,*Mr Clegg presented himself as the voice of “fairness” and challenged his rivals to be honest with the public. His tactics appeared to have paid off with three separate polls putting Mr Clegg far ahead of Mr Cameron and Mr Brown.”
Come 2019, it will be interesting to re-read some of this year’s articles…
Some nice shots of the Do17…..
I’m sorry for appearing to ‘raining on someone’s parade’ but, who paid for this exercise and what was the amount of the budget ?
Oddly enough I was just reading this link… http://www.vox.com/xpress/2014/11/12/7209487/comet-philae-cost
1.4 billion Euros – which works out at E3.50 per person across the EU. A ticket to see Interstellar at the cinema averages E8.50… so for once I’d say Europe’s welcome to the couple of quid it’s cost me personally…
Seemingly the harpoons didn’t work… and the lander “bounced” a number of times – finally landing on it’s side beneath a cliff – which could mean problems getting enough sunlight to recharge it’s batteries so it may only survive a few days. Though apparently if they do decide to drill – or even retract the landing legs, that could actually “bounce” the lander again – potentially putting it in a better position.
But even if it packs up in the next few hours – I would say it’s been an absolutely astonishing achievement anyway.
As to “what practical benefits can there be for the broad mass of mankind” ? At some time in the future one of things WILL be on a collision course for Earth…. that’s not a possibility – it’s a certainty. Finding out as much as possible about them now could give us the ability to literally save the planet.
Slim hope perhaps – but better than relying on Bruce Willis and Ben Afleck…
She’s very complete inside too….

And it goes on! “Falklandsgate” has become “Bellendgate” …. assuming you believe the Daily Pail….
Though I suppose it shows a certain self-awareness that they’d think “Bell ends” would be directly aimed at them..
Yep; They must like their word games in Argentina. Wonder if they show “Countdown” over there?
I think I can see why all governments have kept the Road Tax the way it is![/QUOTE]
I have a couple of classic cars – not quite old enough to qualify for free road tax. For one in particular I pay the full whack of £230-odd road tax… for the privilege of covering a total of 500 miles last year!
What some people will do for 40 virgins.
Didn’t it used to be 72? Living standards must be falling in the afterlife too…
I wish DVLA would get with the times and offer monthly direct debit.
As of today – I believe they do. Don’t know how much interest they’ll sting you with for the privilege though.
and maybe it’s a grave.
Judging by the open canopies, probably not.
Anyone from Doncaster here? Seems you could be a Scottish citizen by tomorrow morning…..
Just think: If if covers Robin Hood Airport too – then the Vulcan could be the first aircraft of the new Scottish Airforce.
