Apart from the Barnes Wallis designs of the Vickers Wellesley, Wellington and Warwick, .

Dave, That statment is a commonly made error.. 🙂 The Chief Designer at Vickers Aircraft was Rex Pierson and He and His team were responsable for the design of the 3 aircraft using the Barnes Wallis designed Geodetic structure.

Rex Pierson was, of course, Barnes Wallis boss !..

Interesting thread.. Will check on the Varsity structure this week..

    Cheers

    Niall..

Yep .. Give You that one.. Forgot the BBMF at top of list 🙂

I know only to well how many are flying in the UK but the point still remains but not one to get into a Hurricane/Spitfire debate !!

Looks like its going to be a great show, shame to miss it …

Have a great time to all who go..

Yes, and no Stirlings, Halifaxes or Wellingtons either. Just as important as the Lancaster, carrying the fight to the enemy in the early part of the war. So I’m not sure what your point is, GASYD.

I for one think it’s an excellent list. Name one other show with such bredth and depth of quality warbird content. I really appreciate the hard work that goes into preparing for Legends and trying to produce something a little different each year.

Not sure about the ‘Aerostars’, though!

If You cant see the point there is no point in trying to explain it!..

I to think its a good list and I never said it wasn’t..

    Aerostars …Yep I second that !!

    Sad state of affairs..

    14 Spitfires + 1 Seafire

Only 2 Hurricanes, would have been 3 but for the American sale !!.. Which Aircraft shot down more enemy aircraft than any other defence system?? ..

“We had a large bi-plane earlier on finals.”

That would have been the AN-2 from Popham that overflew Leatherhead earlier today heading to Biggin. Also saw DC-6 and Dove inbound to join up with the rest of the fleet and do their Vaildation/Practice ..

The 747 + plus other aircraft have devices called “Mass Balance weights” fitted to some control surfaces and these are made out of Depleted Uranium..
    Standard practice!..
