Everyone has their own thoughts on UE, mine are that we should see everything our eyes can view and take nothing but photos and leave only footprints.

Also after many visits to sites, I can only post photos that don’t arouse too much interest, there’s so many sites that people should see but I gave my word that I would’nt show my pictures, a shame I know but, my word is my bond.

I can sleep at night, but can others?

Draw your own conclusions and someone will disagree, agree with everyone and and then conclude you’re wrong?

    Well Nash,

I can’t speak for others but I enjoy the thoughts as I visit the sites that my son and I do. He loves to see RAF sites, thinking of what happened there 40-50 years ago, what were the planes, uniforms and people like? Why were they all here, why did we go to war, what was the cold war?

What was built here, what did they do there, the questions go on and on, he’s 9 1/2 and so wants to be filled with information about the past.

If you notice all of my 28dl posts have been reletively recent ones, however his thirst for knowledge extends further, I can’t tell him I skipped college to go on museum field trips, bronze age and neolithic sites, pliosaurs from 150 millions years ago being excavated by hand.

He loves the past and why can’t I show him that? He found the victorian water works in Grantham, local historians did’nt know existed.

To break into any building is wrong, I know that, my father was a policeman for 31 years, so I know the difference between right and wrong.

If you ask, you shall receive, The sites i’ve visited have been fantastic, Harlaxton Manor in Autumn, nobody gets permission for that, Raf Woolfox, a grumpy doctor who hates people? Well I ring him, ask if we can visit again, told him when, phone him when we’re leaving site and HE says thank you. It’s not difficult.

RAF Saltby, open to the public if you ask, but the dispursed sites, the sewage works, the water tower and the Stanton shelters in a back garden, not public! but we walked up the driveway of Keepers Cottage, saw the lady plucking pheasants had a chat and asked, and she was more than helpful, more to the point, very informative.

RAF Folkingham, an old THOR site, theres more than meets the eye!

I can’t speak for other people, we (Jakob and I) enjoy the past, it should not be lost to nature or development, we should never forget the past, if it is lost, it becomes a memory and then should be past down to our children.

If we break the law, than we desreve to be punished.

Draw your own conclusions, I enjoy seeing the past safely with Jakob, he’s my future!

And of course it’s never been know that aircraft spotters have ever wondered around hangars and restrcited area’s without permission. :diablo:

I did’nt want to say that, but it does’nt mean it’s right to do it, the thought that:

“The difference between right and wrong is getting caught”

    Is not my moto!

Every site I visit is either public or with permission, this being for many reasons:

The majority of the time I have my son with me, therefor, his safety is the most important concern at all times, not only for the risks of him falling or something falling on him but also that an undiserable individual could harm him and or me.

If I have permission and contact the owner just before visiting site then they are aware the we are there, also we contact them to let then know we have left site.

If we have permission and a local farmer etc contacts the police then I have the owners number in my phone to cover our visit.

Also We have taken to wearing a hi vis jacket just to show we are not lurking around.

The car gets parked in a safe place avoiding any hassle.

Not only does getting permission make life easier but also the info that the owners can give is useful, also after asking at one site, myself, Jakob, and 2 other people from here were offered a lift across the site, and also a cup of tea and had a long chat with various member of the club.

Should any wish to my posts on 28DL, you will notice somewhere on the post I thank the relevant owners, these include a Whetherspoons pub, RAF Woolfox, Harlaxton Manor, and others.

Every group attracts bad sorts, trains spotters that wonder on Network Rail properties, Nature photographs that flattern that rare orchid?

The people that know me know my methods and hopefully their happy that the law is adhered to.

With all due respect to everyone viewing, it’s fantastic to see a preserved site, complete with period dress and vintage cars, however we should all remember not to forget.

These sites were farmland before the RAF, USAAF and others purchased the land, and now that the land is back in private ownership they may appear a thorn in the farmers side, consider the cost of upkeep?

These historical sites hold precious memories for the people that served and the ones of us that enjoy visiting them, each site is special and that is why the memorials are errected, so that generations to come will feel the passions the we and our parents feel.

However, as these sites fall into decay and nature retakes them the imagination also starts to take over.

My son, Jakob enjoys the walks across every airfield we visit, thinking of what life was like 50 years ago, would things be different if every old airfield was preserved, hundreds of sites still with fences and intact control towers across this great country of ours.

Please see below for some of the sites that Jakob and I have visited and please also think if they were all preserved we may not have gone?

    RAF Woolfox control tower, external:

    RAF Woolfox control tower, internal:

RAF Kings Cliffe dispursed site, still in use as a riding school:

Grantham AAA site, complete with Jakob:

St Vincents, Grantham, a family home (up for sale £1.6m):

    http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc143/Gingie28/StVincents.jpg

    RAF Harlaxton, however in decay:

I sincerley apologise if I have offended anyone, but history cannot be kept otherwise it is danger of remaining the present.

Please note that all of the sites visited above were with the permission of the owners.

Firstly, these sick twisted individuals need a good beating, to within an inch of their sorry lives.

Secondly, I don’t think that these b457ards would steal it for scrap, there are easier was to make a few quid, also if someone wanted it for the mantlepiece they would know what it’s reason for being there is and “should” respect it.

My thought is that because it’s there it can be stolen, like the plantpots outside your house or the wheelie bin in the back garden.

This mentality is destroying the once great country because of a basic lack of morals in todays life.

Bring back national service, the cane, and the death penalty and restore Britain to its former greatness.

Sorry about that, it just pi55es me right off, by the way, Happy New Year all.

Comparing the shots of the Tower, and the Dome, with Google Earth pix it does seem to indicate W Raynham. However, there is a structure on the horizon to the left of the Tower shot. The same(?) structure can be seen on the horizon to the right of the Dome shot. The sun is obviously at about 120 degs – so an early morning GE pic. The structure seems quite high, but I can’t find a structure on GE casting that sort of shadow?

    Resmoroh

Thats rather complex and indepth, however credit where credit is due, Sir.
