I am looking for links hints tips or pointers towards a US Stealthy Transport project. To be used for covert insertion and exfiltration of special forces. Believed to have been based on the Boeing YC-14 http://home.cinci.rr.com/estople/weirdair/yc14.jpg utilising the overwing efflux to mask IR signature and noise from in front and below and to use modified rear engine structure to diffuse hot efflux ala F-117. I think it may have had a project name in the senior series ( possibly senior trend). At one time 6th S.O.S. at Hurlbert Field Florida had a US civilian registered AN-32 N6505 in service. I believe at the same time approx they leased a civilian AN-74/72 to provide test team pilots with hands on experience of flying a Coanda effect aircraft, which I understand is unconventional in its handling when flown asymmetrically. I.E. loses lift as well as thrust on the affected side. Has anyone on here knowledge of AN-72 or AN-74 aircraft and can confirm or deny the single engined handling characteristics?
It is quite possible that the aircraft was not taken into service or production as the V-22 Osprey will now fulfill that role.
Your time and trouble much appreciated,

From North West Florida Daily News
The first Hurlburt unit to move there will be the 73rd Special Operations Squadron, which flies MC-130Ws.
The second AFSOC asset to move to New Mexico will be the 3rd Special Operations Squadron now at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. It operates MQ-1 unmanned aircraft.
AFSOC spokeswoman 1st Lt. Amy Cooper said CV-22s and Hurlburt-based AC-130s also would move. The command didn’t release which squadrons would be involved or how many troops.
Hope it helps

…………… Don’t forget this project is setting the standards and laying the ground rules for any and every large project that may or may not follow,
FROM VULCAN OPERATING COMPANY MISSION STATEMENT
• To assist in the conservation to full working order of other heritage aircraft of the 20th century
If this isn’t right no one will get another chance, with the CAA, the HLF, or The Great British Public. Signing my cheque was easy. It is the wise spending of all our cheques that is difficult.
I just await with as much patience as I can muster the return of the prodigal daughter to her spiritual home the air and more specifically the air above Woodford EGCD.
Thanks everyone involved.

…………………… but this project has turned into big business, with massive media coverage in the early stages, therefore they should be more media savy now.
I would much prefer that they got the aircraft right than the PR spin, but IMHO they do have a responsibility after courting so much public interest, to satisfy the interest generated. Perhaps a small amount of the money raised could have been reinvested in the continuing PR side of this enterprise. However hindsight is 20/20 vision. Still a staggering achievement:D
Congratulations to all concerned at the sharp end.

Vulcan XH558 Is it going to fly ?
YES But not before she is ready and it is safe to do so. To rush the final phase would be very very stupid with so much at stake. Don’t forget this project is setting the standards and laying the ground rules for any and every large project that may or may not follow, and that includes Concord (spelling intentional). It is in so many ways like the first flight of a prototype. The shear scale of the achievement beggars belief. The wait will be worth it, believe me. Just wait till the VULCAN GOD roars approval, a whole new generation will understand, why grown men go misty eyed and weak at the knees.

Patience please! Especially if you didn’t experience the power and the glory first time round.
Now what we need is Shrub and his cohorts to reopen B-1Aproduction, and we are in business.
Can’t wait for the first flight of the Avro 730 Vulcan 2 as I live within earshot of the Woodford circuit.

………………….all they are trying to do is what they can to help draw more visitors. ……………………..

Taking an angle grinder to an intact aircraft is a good way to attract visitors and generate support for your museum ??

Hmm, wonder how many would prefer to divert the ‘Vulcan to the sky fund’ to getting XR220 airworthy at Cosford??
Probably not that many but it makes for an interesting and challenging “What shall we do next?” project.:dev2:

Many thanks creaking door.
Fascinating input I had heard of the Japanese ones but sadly not the others. However
Are there any diveable aircraft carriers anywhere?
what I had in mind when I asked the question was more er traditional aircraft carriers that might be within safe diving depth.
Sorry for the confusion and thanks for furthering my education.

At risk of venturing off thread ( Note to mods will repost as separate thread if required) were any F-111Ks completed in RAF colours ? What serials were allocated?
Thanks for your help and patience.
