    Iran wants its Tomcat back

    Tehran Times

Iranian Air Force seeks return of F-14 bombers from U.S.
    Tehran Times Political

TEHRAN – A top general declared on Tuesday that the Iranian Air Force is seeking a return of fighter jets it bought from the U.S. in the 1970s.

The United States sold 80 F-14s to Iran in 1974. However, it refused to deliver them to Iran after the Islamic Revolution.

“We want to take back bombers blocked by the U.S. because it is our legitimate right. However, this issue must be pursued by relevant organizations through relevant channels,” Hossein Chitforoush, the Air Force Deputy Commander, told the Mehr News Agency

Some still undelivered? I remembered only the 1st IIAF Tomcat was retained in the US. Whereas the rest of the 79 units were delivered prior to the breakout of the Revolution of ’79.

Tamil Eelam wreckage from today’s news…

“Sri Lankan air force officers lift the wreckage of an aircraft used by the Tamil Tiger rebels to launch an attack at Colombo, after it was gunned down close to Katunayake International airport, Sri Lanka, on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009. (AP / Eranga Jayawardena)”

I must say the camou on the Tamil Tiger aircraft is pretty effective against the foliage.

With the Lebanese having no experience in operating Soviet/Russian equipment, the MiGs will soon turned into a maintenance nightmare! And would so join the Hunters at the dumps…. so much so for the donation.

As Fedaykin & Scooter pointed out, Frogfoot or even Hinds would be a much better asset in dealing with internal militant groups outside the government’s control.

Go into the photo section written in chinese “Sudan” and then, you should be able to spot a whopping big-sized photo of SuAF MiG-29SE Fulcrum in it.

…Boeing is pushing the F-18E/F far greater then they are the F-15E .

Just wondering, is the export of the F-15 a ‘controlled item’ as compared to other contemporaries like the F-16 or even the F/A-18?

Let’s put aside the logistics and synergy of common production base of the F-18, I read repeatedly that the F-15 is cleared for export only to close US allies (note, I’m not referring that the F/A-18 or others is treated with less scrutiny for export here by US export authorities), but is it perhaps that the export of the F-15 is more controlled whereby to Boeing, it makes no sense to concentrate on this plane’s marketability where it is subjected to control vis-a-vis to other Boeing products eg the F/A-18 ?
