…AWACS kept referring to the plane as “Stink 1” when they were routing him back to Lakenheath. I have a wav file of the conversation somewhere, it’s way too funny :D…

SOC, please share the wav file here pleasssseee.

No need to imagine when you know where to look.. 😉

Wow! Thanks for the pics flex297!

Somehow, the title and the stars-&-bars doesn’t look that ‘authentic’ or realistic as compared to the Red Star & Bort Numbers painted on the aggressor jets by the Americans!

Had to off-topic for a while.

The US agressor teams had, in realism, painted their jets (notably A-4s, F-5s, F-14s, F-16s & F/s-18s) in Soviet-style camo patterns and even painted huge Red Stars on the fins (see attached).

I was curious how come the Soviet/Russian AF did not paint their aggressor aircraft in NATO/US-style camo pattern or even reciprocate by painting NATO markings or Star-&-Bars on those jets? WOW! Imagine a true MiG/SU with US-style markings!

Yakovlev are working as consultants on the aerodynamic layout of the L-15. As your article states.

“Yakovlev working as consultants?” Seems like Yakovlev just present the YAK130 blueprints to the Chinese and said “Here you go, mate. Btw, just make sure you don’t named it either the L-346 or L-130. 谢谢 “.

No wonder! When I 1st saw the L-15, I told myself “That’s the BEST LOOKING Trainer to come out of China!”

Now something wicked just cross my mind – wouldn’t it be interesting IF one day, the 3 jets were to be participate in a same race to supply trainers to a ‘someone’ :diablo:

    L15 – Eastern cousin of M346/YAK130?

Can’t help wondering, the L15 look damn familiar to the M346/YAK130 combat trainers.

No wonder the L15 doesn’t share the ‘usual’ Chinese aircraft designs characteristics…

    ..

Another favourite of mine is the former Australian Army PC-6 camo, I’d easily rank it up there with the Splinter cam of the Swedish air force!

a new iraqi air force hip prior delivery…

    :p

Can’t help wondering…..how effective is that camo given Iraq’s landscape? I mean LARGE PATCHES OF GREEN, DARK SAND & BROWN?

Those machines stick out like a sore thumb in the desert! 😡 Well, if they (either the US or Iraqi AF) had wondered how the IrAF Mi-17s should be coloured, I felt they should have just restrict to one color – Light Sand overall.

Seems like its a mix of everything. Makes me wonder why PAF is going for 3 dissimilar systems at the same time. Perhaps it is done to keep everyone (PAF, US and Chinese governments) happy. This article gives a very detailed summary of the official request/decision for the new hardware for PAF.

    http://www.brecorder.com/index.php?id=409827&currPageNo=1&query=&search=&term=&supDate=

…equipment is being purchased from USA and China are as under:

    FC-20 aircraft (36), SD-10 BVR missiles (300), F-16 A/B, ex-Pakistan (26), F-16 C/D (18 with an option for 18 more), BVR, 500(American), targeting pods 18 and joint direct attack munitions (500).

Well, if the FC-20 is aka J-10 and IF the PAF really procured them, I forsee that ‘many’ foreign AF (esp the US!) will be interested to conduct exercises with the PAF from then on! Just like now with IAF SU-30s. 😀

…My guess is that it came from the FSU somewhere.

The report stated that the plane was from the Ukraine and destined to be shipped to the US.
