Ah…It’s not the Hurricane manual your after…it’s a Rotol manual and you can pick one up here for 17.95 USD

    http://www.eflightmanuals.com/detail/itemList.asp?page=4&CategoryGroupID=45

Not only do you get a number of Rotol handbooks but Hamilton Standard, de Havilland and Curtiss ones as well.

Why thank you Becka. Never had my own thread before…I’m touched (Sniff).

I meant to pop in and say hello a couple of months ago but I ran out of time, John Delaney and I were being sad and having too much fun playing with your Spit 24’s prop blades.

Ain’t Half Hot Mum. A B-17 (Sally B) crew think their luck is in when they see a load of well endowed women come running towards them only to find out that it’s Lah-Di-Dah Gunner Graham and Co. in drag.

I’m sure there was another episode featuring a very brief appearance from Dough Arnolds P-47 doing a strafing pass.

“Or fit a Spitfire Mk I spinner instead. I understand these were interchangeable between the Spit and Hurri?”

Sorry Cees but that only works for the DeHavilland props not Rotol ones. The spinners fitted to the Rotol units on Spitfire Mk.IIs, (ES11 spinners if the old memory is working) may have looked very similar but I don’t think you could fit them to the Hurricane. Well, put it this way, the manual doesn’t say you can do it.

As far as I know, there are no blunt Hurri spinners (I think that’s the CM/1) left anywhere. Rather sad but their you go…don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone…Oh dear. That will be me singing about yellow taxis for the rest of the day.

The rather blunt Rotol spinners used on Mk.I Hurricane during the Battle of Britain are interchangeable with latter spinners. In fact CM/1, ES/6 & ES/9 spinners are all interchangeable. My guess is that it would cost far too much to have a one off spinner made.

As far as I am aware the RAFM do allow flash photograph but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have multiple professional flash units set around the aircraft.

Museums usually restrict the use of flash to help preserve paintings or textiles. With these types of objects you usually have to be quite close to take a picture of them and the lux levels hitting the object, although only for a short duration, can be quite intense. For an aircraft, even with a wide angle lens, you have to, stand quite a distance from it so the lux levels hitting any part of it are relatively low.

If we say that over a day people take pictures of S sugar at a rate of one per minute (that’s about 420 pictures) the lux levels hitting the paint work will still be less than half a seconds exposure to direct sun light.

I think they had flooding in a few areas during the week. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Hmmm…Lets have a go then with section Refs where known.

Do take into account that the instruments fitted to the aircraft I’ve got the photo of may not be the instruments it originally had.

Starting with the top two gauges which as 682al has already pointed out are Fuel gauges Type 578FG Ref 6A/1430

The next run of four from the left are:-
ASI Mk. IX can’t make out the sub type.
    Artificial Horizon Mk. IB
Indicator Climb & Decent Mk. IB 6A/723 (?)
    Indicator RPM Type unknown

The bottom run of four are as follows

Altimeter (not sure of the Mk for this one)
    Directional Indicator Mk. IA, 6A/1209
    Turn & Slip Mk. IA
Boost Gauge Mk. IIIM* 6A/1581 (Luminous) or 6A/1582 (Fluorescent)

Anybody want to and anything, correct or comment please feel free.

It was a Mk.II which had been converted to a Mk.III…I’m not sure if that helps!
