Ooh…you all got there before me!
Anne;)
Not much to add apart from that it is an Avro 504L.

One thing you may want to take into account is that War Service Dress blouses only became standard issue to all ranks in 1943. They were available from 1940 onwards but only as working dress under Suits Aircrew and the standard Service Dress with four pockets and belt was a much more common item at that time.

Well said Bruce.
We can speculate till the cows come home but the bottom line is that we need more info.
All we can say at the moment is that it’s probably British and sounds very interesting.

Hello Macky42
It’s been a while since I’ve read The Big Show but are you thinking about the Ta-152 he encountered. If memory serves right it managed to out run some P-51s’ that were after it as well.
Anne
I like the Target Tug scheme although I’m not too sure about hanging it from the roof!
To quote Phil
The bullets were in a roll like a belt that you would see the soldiers in films feeding through a machine gun.
The bullets were very small-I think we may have one somewhere-will try and find it and post a pic-from what I remember they were about 2″-3″ long-looked the sort that would fit in a rifle.
Sorry Bruce but it sounds more like they are for a Browning Mk.II* to me.

I’ll see if I can get one of my contacts to hunt down the Whitley war equipment schedule to see if 5U/2492 appears in it. It will take a good couple of weeks though.
Anne
Elliot Smock of the Whitley group may be interested in this but I think he’s out in India at the moment. I’m also unsure of his contact details.
Anne
It’s certainly British. 5U/2492 is an RAF stores reference number for electrical equipment (pumps, transformers, blowers etc.).
ANNE
Is this the P-40 your thinking of?

Although It’s true that WV903 is the only un-modified F.(GA).4 around it’s loss would not extinguish the sub types existence as many of the surviving F.G.A.6s are re-engined and modified F.(GA).4 airframes.
Still like to see something happen to it though.

Hello.
As someone who is dyslexic, (I’ve never understood why they gave it a name that’s so hard to spell) I always copy and paste whatever I write into word so I can spell check it before posting it. It also gives me a few extra moments to make sure that I actually want to post a comment or if I have made any large bloopers in what I have written.
As for defeatist attitudes…well I’m sorry to say that I’m one of those people who think it is very unlikely that we will see a Lightning or Buccaneer flying under a British registration. The CAA just don’t want it to happen and that is a hurdle you just can’t get over no matter how often the topic is brought up. I’d love to see them flying as I’d love to see a Vulcan (which I think is unlikely but not impossible) flying again but there are so many problems in the way and I think it is only correct to say so whenever someone raises this issue.
Ooh…This is sounding very negative isn’t it!
Anne
Cor…What a cool site…Thanks for that.
Now where’s that credit card.
