Or just keep your eyes open on ebay.

The Varsity at Glasgow was WJ903 which is the cockpit section at Firbeck. The rest of it got the chop back in the 80s’…I’m sure I’ve got a shot of it somewhere but I’ve not got a way of putting it onto the computer.

As far as I know it’s not complete, for instance the BBMF were loaned the ammo tracking and I don’t think it was ever put back, but most of the crew stations are fairly well kitted out and you could also man the Elsan if you needed to. I’m sure Lanc Man could supply you with a list of what is missing.

“Go on Septic…tell us a real bedtime story”
Oops wrong BoB film
😀
“Bring us back a Haggis.”
Couldn’t help myself. Sorry.

Fantastic idea but as always it runs into the old problems of money, time and, probably the biggest one, Heath & Safety.
I can think of one museum where you are unable gain access to the aircraft because of radioactive and asbestos hazards. The risks are very low but if they are found letting unmonitored people into the aircraft they can end up with a four figure fine!
Ho-Hum nothing’s easy.

Hello Moggy.
By my reckoning 51 Sqdn. managed to get through 62 Yorks during their rather short time with them. That’s quite a list.
Still you did put all those lovely 388th colour pictures on the forum.
I feel a private message coming on.

See if you can get your hands on the Grub Street book, Bloody Shambles, Volume 2, The Defence of Sumatra to the fall of Burma. By Christopher Shores, Brian Cull & Yasuho Izawa
I’ve only got the first volume which covers the fall of Singapore up to 14 Feb 1942 but mentions a quote from Kapt R. A. D. Anemaet, OC of 2-VIG-IV which were soon to replace there Curtiss Wright CW-21Bs with Hurricanes.
He says, “It was our belief that the CW-21B could out climb but not out-turn the Navy 0 (Zero). The Hurricane could do neither”.
I highly recommend these books, full of detailed info on a rather over looked theatre of the air war and lots of rather rare photos as well (how about camouflaged 4AACU RAF Swordfish with pre war roundels…they look bloody silly).

Sorry to be a pain but wouldn’t that mean that the OFMC stole the FW190 as the airframe did not originate in this country. Come to think of it how many airframes have the Fighter Collection ‘stolen’!
Oh I am cruel.

Now, now Boys. Andrewman’s heart is in the right place.
The problem is everyone has their own sacred cow and would like to see their money being used on their own pet project. How many of you would join me in putting money together to recreate a Parnall Panther or to raise items from the SS Breda when you could use the money to keep a Lightning thundering down a runway instead (a very good cause in itself).
Choose your cause and support it and let others support causes you may not have great interest in.
Rant over.

Try the RAF Museum at Hendon. They should have the aircrafts movement card (Form 78) and if you know the date of the accident they should be able to supply you with the card for that as well (Form 1180).

It seems a shame to limit ourselves to the RAF when a large proportion of Scotland’s military aviation history includes the Fleet Air Arm.
We could also have the USAF included in the form of 67th ARS (Hmmm a SA-16B , SH-19 or SC-54 with day-glo orange and yellow bits) or how about doing something about SAL/ RCAF connection with Sabres CF-100’s or CF-104’s.
Anne.
To think I used to run away and hide when silver CF-104s flew over my house…the folly of youth!
Having been born and brought up in Scotland I have to say that I think that it’s a FAB idea…the only problem is it will never happen.
I’m afraid those north of the border will have to put up with one rather good Museum at East Fortune (even if it is a sod to get to) and a handful of other smaller collections, all of which deserve our full support.
Tisk…these people in the South East and Midlands (which now includes me). They don’t know their born.
ANNE
By the way…where would you have it? Turnhouse…Somewhere near Glasgow…or how about Prestwick?
It’s not complete. Although the main structures are there it is rather mashed and the FN20 is missing.
ANNE
It’s at the Reserve Collection at RAF Stafford.
All they have is a section of fuselage where the main spar was attached (in rather bad condition after the army blew it up), most of the airframe from the tail fin back, a gun taboo and parts of the undercarriage.
