So India’s choice of military equipment has come to be determined by which supplier isn’t banned this week.
NO, I means who play by the rules is awarded the contract even at higher price.
^ and ^^ Thank you for clearing up things. So it was not F4 but F3O-4T.
Lets see if it is F3O-4T or F3-R standard. As I read, if India gets F3-R then it will be mostly western weapons package otherwise local. As F3-R is more about integrating more weapons with better feedback management.
These question were related to Indian deal …
Does anyone guess the number breakdown of Rafale B and C?
Any suggestions/guess for the the weapons and equipment package?
Nope, F3-R. But F4 will be mainly a software evolution. (and plug and play hardware)
I guess F3-R is in the development stage, as contract was signed in Jan, 2014 and will be production ready only in 2018. And F4 is planned in 2030.
I am sorry but I am bit confused with different standard, so which version had ASEA (released in 2013).
Any guess

My understanding is that India will be getting “Rafale Tranche 4”, can anyone confirm it?

Although French are reliable suppliers but current situation show what to expect in future. There is too much mistrust. There is little gain in signing it and regretting it later (equally applicable to every party involved).

I can only laugh at the many comments made here as I have neither time nor energy to respond to each of it. To be honest, it is same discussion with same points since months. I hope this ends so or so, till then
So if you are not even bothered about India, then why you are wasting your time on posting on a Indian thread. Who see the value they will care for India, and don’t forget Russia-India back each other at geo-polictical issues.
It is not only about weapons, like many have said before Russia is selling weapons to China (Which is a real threat) and we are bothered about it. But Russia don’t care about it, as it gets big finicial benefits by selling technology. All these talk about illegal copies of the military stuff is rubbish.
I don’t see what reaction are expected regarding Pakistan, where they are NOT even selling S-X00 air defense systems along with adv radars or selling air logisitical, offensive and defensive technologies. India don’t care anymore, as it will hurt Russia more.
It is dimplomatic job to issue statements but nothing more nothing less.
5th Su-30 MKI crashed near Pune, both pilots are safe,
There are two lines of thoughts …. 10 and 20.
As it is economic to build, operate, upgrade the system.
Also With current troubles, it justify to have more numbers. Even our older upgraded planes can out perform their opponents with the surround space overview.
MoD and IAF must come to compromise and quickly decide on the numbers.
PS: For 2 Phalcons, we are discussing since ages and it does not make sense to use different or existing air frames. It is better to kill these 2 and order more smaller ones.
IAF might end up owning 20 of these.
Anyone with the interests of India at heart would oppose it tooth and nail. Arguing for the tender to be scaled back or scrapped is one thing, but simply substituting another contender for Rafale is absurd.
It is not absurd because both fulfills the technical requirements and were short listed by the IAF. Although Eurofighter had few negative points (technology and price) in comparison to the Rafale.
But cost and ToT is a big factor, if we do get engine technology I will consider it a good deal at reasonable price. It will be a win-win situation for India-Germany and may be also for French (can keep their technology).
Complaining about an engine which isn’t going to see service in Indian aircraft. Complaining about progress on a radar that India was meant to be replacing with its own anyway. When every item we can cross-reference with established information suggests the complaint is spurious at best, it’s pretty difficult to take the rest of it seriously.
OK let me see … engine, radar are not there as per India’s requirements. Displays, most weapons and EW will be locally produced and integrated.
So what do we get in the prototype in 2015 if India signs a JV 😉
Just amusing so many insistent that there would be “absolutely no more delays”. Also, who wants a bet there will be another excuse when Sep comes round?
Who wants to bet that you will be live in 5 mins?? It is not a school project, it is a military project and delay are part n parcel of it. But making it big highlight is the problem, especially when delay is of ONE month.
For FOC it is still very optimistic but here ADA and IAF working together hand in hand. Lets see what comes out.
May be something like FOC-I (20 planes) and FOC-II (20 planes) along with IOC-II (20 planes), so around 60 MK1 planes. Will address critical issue discovered in MK1 (current and future) in the next iteration MK2.
What is the delay period … ONE month from August 2014 to September 2014 for initial SP planes and THREE months from Dec 2014 to Mar 2015 (which is still very optimistic)
Not every project can be mutually beneficial. and second point I already pointed out that India is even slow in procuring FMS deal. so releasing money on time for IL-214 was non-starter. IL-476/IL-214 will be in production for long time. India will ultimately buy it off the shelf.
C-17 production line is almost closed.
I don’t see KC-390 has long production run. Its too expensive from the start. and after Brazil orders are done. there is no production volume coming.
Then why to sign a JV at the first place, it is a wastage of time for both parties. We are operating only a limited number of IL-76/78, so we will be using only limited number of C-17s.
Of course, no one knows the future (e.g. war, earthquake etc. etc.) so requirements might changes. We might buy IL-476 but forget about IL-214 off the shelf.
Actually India would have stood to gain more by joining the Brazilian KC-390 program at its begining phase and getting some work packages for the structures. There are a few private players who are already involved in structures design/ analysis for the big civilian OEMs and they could have been sub-contracted those packages with HAL playing the role of integrator. It would’ve proved to be mutually beneficial with India becoming the largest operator of the KC-390 and in return, getting a portion of the development and workshare.
Anyway, I’m more keen on the HS-748 replacement program..with HAL being barred from participating in that program, this is the perfect opportunity for the private sector to start nibbling away at HAL’s monopoly position..in the future if the MTA program ever comes out of coma, maybe the private sector may be a better partner than HAL.
I hope at the end MTA will work for us if not then as a backup we still have two more projects (NAL RTA-90 and Avro replacement). At least we will not be stuck in the black hole and might also offer a chance to consolidate two types into one.
It is my personal opinion, if MTA is delayed or fails then Russia will lose complete Indian market for military transport planes.
