There are several reasons why the aircraft was painted grey rather than bare metal.
The main reason is that take too long to remove all of the paint and get the metal to a suitable finish. Time is money, and if you want to be charged £150 for a pleasure flight instead of the very reasonable £50 then perhaps Atlantique would consider removing the paint.
Again, due to time constraints, if the staff spent most of their time removinig paint then there wouldn’t be any time left to do the maintenance on the rest of the aircraft, I’m sure you’d all be moaning more if Atlantique had a lovely collection of static aircraft that couldn’t fly!
Another problem, is that looking at black and white photographs of Dakotas its not easy to see if its grey or bare metal, perhaps they just looked outside at their Pembroke that is grey and did it the same?
The aircraft has been painted in these colours purely for their own benefit, not necessarily for film work, but just because they wanted to.
I think its a great looking aircraft, and I hope it will fly for many years to come!

There are a limited number of DC3 models (hence Limited Edition), so get your memberships quickly while the models are still available. Once they’re gone they’re gone for good!!
As previously said, the voucher is redeemable for either pleasure flights/events or merchandise. The merchandise will soon be appearing on the website, so keep checking back. An easy way to get direct to the Classic Flight website is by going to http://www.classicflight.com
Also, you can choose which aircraft you want your membership money to go towards. Your money will directly go into the costs of restoring, preserving, and maintaining the aircraft of your choice. So if you think the Pembroke is looking a bit tatty, or the Rapide needs some new seat covers, you just say and your money will go to the aircraft that you think deserves it!

Jon.
I’ve had a limited response to this request so far (just 2 replies), isn’t there anyone out there that wants to work on vintage aircraft?

Richard,
unfortunately Air Atlantique can’t do pleasure flights on the Anson due to it not being on a public transport Certificate of Airworthiness. Hopefully in the near future we will have discussions with the CAA to see what the possibilities are of making this happen, but I think it will be so expensive that we will never recover the costs. 🙁
Regards,
Jon.
Air Atlantique also have G-AZHJ in store for spares use,
regards,
Jon.
Air Atlantique have 4 Ansons, 1 of which flies, and 1 is under long term (very long!) restoration.
Mk C.21 G-VROE ex G-BFIR, WD413 Airworthy
Mk XIX G-AYWA ex OO-VIT OO-DFA, long term restoration
Mk C.19 TX226 Spares use
Mk C.19 TX235 Spares use
I have the pleasure of being the display pilot for the Air Atlantique Anson, what fun !!! 🙂
regards,
Jon.
Bournemouth Sea Prince did have the N7SY register, but was de-registered a long time ago. Supposedly for sale, but when I enquired about buying her the owners decided they wanted to keep her after all.
G-AMLZ is indeed being saved by someone in exchange for an Auster as previously mentioned. I personally offered to save this aircraft and restore her, but someone else beat me to it.
At Van Nuys (USA) is another short nosed Prince N206UP, in a sorry state but the owner is convinced that she will fly again (unlikely)
The Sea Prince at Long Marston WM735 G-RACA has now been painted pink in the colours of ‘Gods Kitchen’ which is a nightclub/rave that is obviously held at the airfield.
There is a Sea Prince in Toronto that is virtually flyable, and for sale. WF133
Percivals did make a floatplane model of the Prince, but it never got any further than that. There is a picture of the model in J.Sylvester’s book on Percivals.

Jon.
A friend of mine is soon (hopefully!) to publish a book on the Prince/Pembroke series of aircraft. He has been following/researching them for 30 years! I’ll let everyone know when the book is published.

Jon.
About 34 Pembrokes, 1 President, 2 Princes, 1 Survey Prince and 12 Sea Princes on my list of survivors.

Hello Bruce,
Yes I am very interested an would love to take copies of all of these manuals. I understand they will be English and may have subtle differences to the Swiss Venom, but I’d rather have an English manual that is slightly wrong than have one written in Swiss that’ll translate to being completely wrong! 🙂
What would be the easiest ways for me to copy these manuals? Would you be prepared to send them to me so I can copy them and return them, or would you have to copy them and post the copies to me?
Kind regards,
Jon.

very true, London TMA is directly above the field at 3500′ and upwards. But if they have clearance to fly above the airfield above that height then I’m sure they could easliy get clearance to ‘run-in’ to the airfield, drop the meat, then run-out.

Jon.
I understand that everyone sees this as another NIMBY, and quite rightly so. BUT he doesn’t want the airfield shut, he would like to cut down the amount of parachuting, aeros, and heli flights.
Surely its not too much bother to do aeros somewhere else (I usually fly for 10 mins away from my airfield before practising displays), get parachute aircraft to fly South for 10mins then North for 10mins to be at jump height, thus minimizing time overhead, and organize alternate pleasure routes for heli flights.
When I have been pleasure flying at Duxford, the first flight is on a Northern route, second Eastern route, third Southern route, fourth Western route, then repeat. This effectively cuts the flights over villages by a quarter.
I realise that I could be shooting myself in the foot by sounding positive about this protest, but as long as its intentions are to keep the airfield open and just reduce the nuisance noise then I don’t see a problem.
HOWEVER!!! I do not agree with the comments on Mr Freeman, nor the posting of incorrect statements.

😮
Brunty provost is XF844 and is due to be relocated to Japan. Don’t ask why, I’ve no idea!
By the way, if you look carefully at the Brunty provost you’ll notice the undercarriage is on the wrong way round!
When did you see the Kenyan Provost? What condition was it in?

Jon.
