I remember my father building me a Folland Gnat and the ubiquitous Mk1 Spit when I was about 4 years old. My first effort was a Scammel Tank Transporter which was a disaster – I would have been around 5.
Memorable models included many by Revel – the local newsagent stocked loads for some reason. I am now on my 3rd renaissance. I have a Tamiya Zero and a couple of motorbikes on shelf and my most recent attempt was the lovely Tamiya 1/32 Mk IX Spit.
Good idea DCW – I’ll see if i can get some home cooked mince pies to bring with me, if not I shall arrive bearing Mr Kiplings finest..
I will be asking for a camera from Santa I think – mine has been confiscated by the ex 🙁
dant, another post deserving of a ‘like’ button. I agree!
The NIMBY’s certainly canned Thompsons plans (much to my disgust) – the disturbance was minimal for me living under the finals turn so it was all a crick of shot.
Hmm, Coventry town centre seems to be more Pound shops than anything else.
The post war architecture is a disgrace but to be fair the powers that be are trying to make it right.
Cool. I will try to get there! Is Rory still on the engineering staff?
100% behind the Forum 3, our beloved mods and Key. Hope whoever triggered the action is proud of themselves – possibly a PR nightmare on the way.
Very good and thank you for sharing! During my recent sojourn in Japan I remember watching a BBC programme on iPlayer about the restoration of the Graham-White building so it’s nice to see the finished facility.
Shall have to nip down over the holidays and have a look!
Things have moved on now for cars – for the past couple of years I’ve worked on Brake Assist Systems (BAS) which takes over from the driver if panic braking is detected to apply maximum effective brake pressure faster than the human operator.
Either detects pedal speed or line pressure increase over time and hopefully saves a few meters of stopping distance. Now a requirement for new models of car.

My bad Rich, I was looking at December LOL! Ok, 1st it is.
Sorry to hear of your loss 🙁
Ok, I’ll try to get up on the 29th, Rich.
Didn’t Classic Flight operate a Pembroke/Sea Prince at one time?
Might swing by next weekend if my chaotic personal life allows 🙂
I remember the consternation that arose when Ford (for whom I worked) booked a large, sumptuous conference room at Jaguar’s Castle Bromwich plant for a ‘summit’ conference involving the very senior management from the UK and Germany. I drove our American Chief Engineer up there from Essex and we were the first to arrive (I think he was the instigator) to set up at around 6:30am.
Most of us are aware of Castle Bromwich’s heritage on this forum. Lets just say the room had to be hastily changed from the Lancaster Conference room after I raised concerns over the feelings of our Cologne based VIP’s. Nice room though – lots of great paintings of Lancs in action over Germany…
