Yes but Norwich always looks like that.
Don’t say rude things about Naarich. For those of us who have been exiled, it remains a golden (if somewhat sugar beet encrusted) shangri-la. I’m looking out over Coventry – makes you realise why people get sent there.
A pity I wasn’t planning to visit my folks this weekend – I’d have popped over for look.

Norfolk ‘n good. Premiership for a season!! Get yer bungy ropes here..
Yes… but sadly for me, the CHP wasn’t thinking the same…
Is that why you’re in Belgium now 😉 It can’t have been too bad, XK’s are limited to 155mph.. Don’t half get there fast mind.

Bait BMW’s with an XKR? With MY reputation? (apologies to the Fast Show)
If you think you are so good that you don’t need the full 45 hours to be safe and confident when you are carrying your first passenger there’s no reason why you shouldn’t go for it.
Well obviously I’m a sky god: I just haven’t had a chance to prove it yet (I wish ;))
A good point and I can see that an NPPL holder will always be viewed with some suspicion by more experienced flyers no matter how careful they are or good their airmanship is. I’ve already made my decision – looks like it was the right one.
But for me and Mrs Moggy the flights to France are the best bit of having an aircraft. Would you want to give that up?
To be honest, that was the main reason I discarded the NPPL route – One of the main SWMBO persuasion tactics out of the window b4 I get off the ground!

Flying boat weather here
I’m planning to put the money up front and try to go at a rate of at least one per week (weather permitting..). I seem to absorb more at an intensive pace than at a liesurely one.
The risk for me is if I do it ad-hoc either:
a) I’ll find something else to spend my beer tokens on (like, er, beer for instance)
or more likely:
b) SWMBO will find something else to spend my beer tokens on.
I’ve got a new cunning plan by the way. Apparently there’s a national shortage of truck drivers, so I may do my trucky licence and do agency work at the weekends and evenings to save up the moolah for the flying. Discuss…
I’ve got the impression from some of the schools that the NPPL is looked upon unfavourably. Is that because it’s lacking somehow, or that the school won’t make as much dosh of it?
John C
Silly Trucker.
Interesting thread… The place that I did my trial flight with was good so I’d be tempted to stick with them, but I’ll certainly shop around when it comes to making the decision.
Is it worth getting AOPA/PFA to lobby for a change to the rules for becoming an instructor? It certainly seems as if the requirement is a bit excessive – and an enthusiastic, dedicated instructor has got to be better than someone who’s treading water until they get their bus drivers licence. A naive view probably, but hey we’re a democracy, right? (stop laughing at the back)

Who’s never let knowledge and experience get in the way of a good discussion
“Do I look like fscking santa claus?”
or
“2 metres, 1 metre aaand we’re down. Now for heavens sake will you remember to write up that broken altimeter”
So as a complete numptie here, how much would one of these (Yak-52 taildragger) cost to buy? Running costs? The tricycle one is ok but the taildragger is so much cleaner. I’ve looked at the Yak UK website but it’s not that informative..

Running before he can walk. Or crawl even.
Dunno about anyone else (and being a newbie an’ all) but I enjoyed reading that – If Pilot mag sees fit to publish ILAFFT every month there’s room on this forum for such (well written in this case) stories that both entertain and educate (in my humble opinion).
One thing I’ve discovered as I get past impetuous youth and motorcycling is that it’s far easier (less painfull and expensive too) to learn from others mistakes – and even better if the person who’s made the mistake is still here to tell the tale!
Be assured that when I start training my stupidity will be fully documented on here 🙂
Keep ’em coming Steph – nice work.
John C
Overtime required – flight training needed.
If I were to go to South Africa or the good ole USA for my training I would choose a CAA recognised establishment and do a JAA PPL – No point in getting an incompatible licence and then have to jump through rings of fire to get it converted into something practical if the aim all along was for a Licence to fly in our green and pleasant (if somewhat irritating) land.
In your case Steph, you obviously weren’t planning to come to the UK (and to be honest what sane Frenchman would? Cheap fuel, booze and fags, nice roads, decent wine…) so the end result wasn’t poor planning 🙂
By the way.. In case no one has heard (which will surprise me to be honest), there has been a new EEC Directive introduced. To improve road safety, drivers of lower than average ability must now display a warning on their cars. This takes the shape of a flag with a red cross on a white background, and must be displayed on a short mast attached to the window of the vehicle. Furthermore, the lower the ability of the driver, the more flags he must display.
🙂 🙂 🙂

Having a better day but sick of faux nationalism.
Cockpit fever… That about sums it up!
So what’s more expensive? A hard drug habit or flying? As has been said, to make a small fortune from aviation..
John C
Need altitude
Might well be there – just up the road from me (well 20 miles!).

Looking for somebody to fund my PPL.. Gixer600 going on Ebay within a week.
X post from another list. The author is a paramedic 🙂
>And none of the England shirt wearing drunken yobs I had to deal with
>last night found me speaking to them in French at all funny. I know my
>French isn’t particularly good but I think they were being a bit unfair.
Well I laughed anyway!
France were a class act though.

Today’s news: George W Bush reports for his Air National Guard flight training. Sources say that he is making good progress and can actually recognise an aircraft now, after being shown relevent Seseme Street episodes.
Hi Steph,
This seems like a jolly nice bunch of chaps and chapettes – Just don’t gloat too much if France beat England on Sunday 🙂
You don’t want to buy a motorbike or a kidney do you? Both well used but perfectly servicable…
JC
Wingless wondering..
To all you bikers – one word: Ixion. You sound like you’ll fit right in there. If I sell the GSXR6 I’ve still got Frances’ (SWMBO) R6 🙂 So a plan not entirely without merit…
Thanks for the words of wisdom – the arguments are compelling. Especially Moggie’s. As to what I want to do after getting the little brown book? That depends on finances but I guess we’d mainly do “going to different places” (my parents are over in Norfolk, and I’m in the Midlands so popping over for lunch probably isn’t an unresonable assumption?), get some more bits on the licence (Night etc) and see about Joining a group. Dunno is the broad answer!!
Still no bids for my kidney? I’m sure that you could save it for a rainy day.. Hmm Kidney futures. Now there’s a thought.

Rambles off into the warm evening sunshine….
