I don’t think there’s anything really unusual going on with that roundel. To me it seems like an 80s star roundel with completely faded red ring and star, plus a white central disc who’s remains are still visible.
Hiya!
nope its definatly a different roundal, the faded DRAAF roundal looks quite different, the red star fades quite quickly, as does the red band, usualy leaving the white middle and the green and black bands:
These are from the kandahar boneyard (whcih if anyone has more pics, id love to see em!) so my guess was maby its a early taliban marking, as this appears to be their main marking:
since were in Kandahar, heres a couple of pics of the MiG-21 Gate Guardian at the airport wearing the old 1960s roundal of national colours 😀
There’s also a aerial photo showing an Afghan airfield (I think it was Kadahar) with one of the aircraft parked there wearing a green roundel.
anyone got this pic? 😀
Pic was taken within Pakistan, Feb this year.
ah, there we go then! 😀

..a good guess as which config to use would be helpfull 🙂 ive included a pic which might help?

cheers!

cheers for that! 😀
Afghan Su-22U
this ones quite cool, in that apart from being rare, it seems to validate the Kabul Airport Sukhoi paint scheme somewhat!
hiya
it is true we dont reaalllly need any a2a, but it would be benificial for our airforce to have some form of Air to ground capability, be it fixed or rotary…the aermacchis would have been fine (jeez, they wernt even that old either!)
but the common NZ belief is that someone else will bail us out if we ever need anything, be it US or Aus…and while true, its no excuse not to be prepaired, espically for natural disasters..in which NH-90s would be invaluable, which is why its dishartnening to see the number cut 🙁
