Thanks for the replies all.
Mike – all of that is fine, they have set-out there policy in great detail. The problem is that if you take all of that and establish what it actually means (ie- cut through all the waffle) then it basically says that they will acquire anything that they see fit to acquire. In essence their policy doesn’t rule-out anything so in terms of questioning their activities, they’ve covered all the possibilities (intentionally so I would assume). So if one chooses to question any specific project, simply referring back to their stated policy gets one absolutely nowhere. Sorry to bang-on about the same subject but where does their stated policy leave the issue of XT597 then? On the basis of their policy, how come their official response to complete disinterest in XT597 is “no comment” ?
As far as I am aware, XT597 never flew with the RAF, so perhaps that explains the RAF Museum’s “disinterest”?
If they were that bothered about it, surely they could have got hold of it whilst it was at Boscombe? They didn’t bother then, so why should they now?
What’s at the back? Some kind of fixing?

Thanks for all the replies so far, that French one looks pretty similar.
Any info on P38 sealed in black plastic as if for shipping seen on a low loader at 8am 24 September, northbound A12 at Colchester?
Minus wings and booms.
Presumably the one now at Bentwaters
I just wonder why they went. Whether they are in Nigeria or supporting the Sentinel deployment they are still potentially offensive. The Cyprus tornado force went out with LDP only and now look what has happened. What a surprise….
They went to N’Djamena as part of Operation Turus.
Here is an article about the Tornado and future planning on the continent and in Saudi:
http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/tornado-could-fly-on-into-2030s-partners-say-404109/
I didn’t realise the UK had sent Tornadoes to Nigeria. When did that happen?
They are not based in Nigeria. They went late August.
6 of those have gone fairly recently.
Not really. 2 in May 2014, 2 in February 2014, and 2 in December 2013.
Based on my original interpretation of that article it did look that way. It read as if the 160 excluded the 32 sent to RSAF but when put the other way, then it’s possible. Not the same as arguing that 160 are on contract but NOT built. 160 have been built, it’s just that it might well include the 32 sent to RSAF. That bit I might be wrong on.

As to the daylight sighting, it is worth noting that BAE conducted ground runs of Taranis in broad daylight within sight of the perimeter fence before the flight tests were released. The only difference this time is that someone saw.
This aircraft or test article has been in the black since the early/mid 90s btw…
In fact, Taranis was seen by plenty of enthusiasts at Warton at various times before the flights took place. It was just that their sightings were not reported to the mainstream aviation media. It seems these enthusiasts were aware of the sensitivities of the project, so didn’t report their sightings to the general public, and good on them too.
I believe the prototype (PO2?) Tonka has been taken off display and has been replaced with 2 other airframes. I read that it will be placed into storage in one of the sheds. Did you see it?
It was outside last week, in the restoration area car park.
Hi Everyone,
Can anyone point me in the right direction please, am seeking a listing of all Sea Harriers produced, what units they served with and their ultimate end.
Thank you in anticipation.

Jason
This superb book should satisfy your requirements.
Fleet Air Arm Fixed-wing Aircraft Since 1946

Just been doing some research into Jaguar crashes, and the following are probably the most likely candidates (though possibly not exclusively)
XX957
Approach crash at Bruggen 21 Oct 81 after lightning strike
XX961
Mid-air with XX964 at Bruggen 25 May 80
XX964
Mid-air with XX961 at Bruggen 25 May 80
XX971
Lahr 21 Mar 78 emergency landing
XZ102
Laarbruch 14 Dec 76 shortly after take off
I would consider that XX971 is the most likely of these, but would be interested to hear any other thoughts.
Thanks all for your replies.
Tony, any idea which edition of W&R?
She does look good though, even for a ****ty six machine 😀
Agree with that (41F)
