Some fine shots Mr Angry and a fine and proper way to pay your respects to those who have died .

nice sentiments as well in the replies.

God rest them all those who paid the ultimate price for the freedom we enjoy today .

Your reference to the anti 4X4 sentiment being expressed here is that in this area that is exactly what 90% of them are used for. They do the school run then mum goes shopping until its time to collect the ankl;e biters from school. The other 10% are doing what they were built for, slugging across muddy fields, forsest track and building sites.

    I think you have a very valid point …by 10.30 most morning’s either here, the UK, and across most of mainland Europe a lot of 4×4’s are either ;

Sitting outside a coffee shop in a gaggle of their similar shiny never been near mud brethren.

sitting taking up three parking spaces in a shopping centre car park.

parked on a street approx 2 ft from the kerb as the driver was unable to judge where the kerb was.

Actually parked on a loose surface…the gravel of the local golf club car park

Joking aside ( Yes Sealord JOKING !!! 😀 ) most 4×4’s are not used for what their forefathers were designed for. What is the point in having a big huge ungainly ,cross country capable, bad cornering, ego boosting, lump of steel when you could have a svelte ,gorgeous ,ego boosting, badly handling MPV ??? ahh i forgot wouldn’t help Socially conscious Mr or Mrs Suburbia look good at the golf club !

Despite their “apparent” strength they are about as safe to have an accident in as a 1980’s Jaguar !!! Try checking out the crash tests carried out on for example some Opel /Vauxhall jeeps (the Frontera was very very scary!)and compare them to a car capable of carrying the same number of people.

Fine if you need such a vehicle for your business buy one but why do you need 4 wheel drive to drive to the shops , take the kids to school etc??

Free choice fine …but surely egos aren’t a valid excuse !

The old adage that the most dangerous part of a car is the nut holding the steering wheel comes to mind. Is it just an impression I get or do most modern drivers know how to indicate on roundabouts? Sorry for taking the thread off topic btw

No no no…its just that indicator bulbs are optional extras that a lot of people dont bother with….

Very sad to hear about these brave men . My thoughts are with the family and workmates.

We had a similar tragedy here in Ireland a few weeks ago where two part time firemen died attending a fire .

Human beings in caves for instance.

strange the way some people have a fascinaion with the stone age….ie
” bomb them into the stone age….” or words to that effect

joking aside 4×4’s can be a ruddy nuisance as a lot of the drivers havent a clue how to handle them ,park them , use the indicators, keep a correct braking distance from another vehicle or for that matter how to move back into the inside Lane of a motorway when they have passed someone….

Mind you Van drivers are as bad, and Mercedes drivers, and Bus drivers, and Ford Focus drivers and….and …and….

Driver’s attitudes have taken a major turn for the worse here and in the UK over the last 5 or 10 years , its not as bad in some parts of europe and the States is heaven most of the time…mind you stay away from Italy…the only thing to drive there is a Scania…now that is FUN!!!
