You can bet your life the ‘shopping vouchers’ will be for the stores whose owners give ‘loans’ to the Labour Party. Yet another hand out to the ‘underclass’. No one asked them to take drugs. No one asked the taxpayer if he wanted more of his hard earned cash given to the ‘less fortunate’. Those of us ‘fortunate’ enough to work are bled to death for a socialist society, where the shirkers and ‘disadvantaged’ are pandered to night and day.

When will people wake up and realise pandering to these people only encourages more and more ‘spongers’.

The Government would do better using the Afghan poppy harvest to wean these addicts of their poison, it would be cheaper and more effective than another handout. Only problem is, the CIA would not take kindly to having their boat rocked.

the first part of this post reminded me of a friend who is unfortunate enough to be a paraplegic .He was rightly enraged to find that able bodied but very stupid people frequently use the few designated disabled parking spaces that are available in our local town.

    His solution was to leave a message under their wiper blade.It ran as follows;

” Thank you, as an able bodied driver, for using one of the few designated parking spaces available for disabled drivers .

i hope that you never , unlike myself, HAVE to use one of these spaces.”

so, Bentwaters, where is your wiper blade ???

Never forget the old saying ” There ,but for the grace of god ,go I ”

Hopefully you or any member of your family or circle of friends will never have to avail of the limited resources available to the Rehab organisations.

the 2nd part of the post isnt a bad idea !!

Historic experiences can not be transferred. When the Iraqi people are not willing to learn from the history, they have to go through that experiences the hard way.

    They do already..through illegal immigration…:D

Seriously, if there’s going to be a civil war…it would have happened when Saddam eventually died…unless some other dictator replaced him.

The Iraquis have a chance at democracy..the same that Germany and Japan had. They were smart enough to take advantage of it.

We’ll see if the Iraquis do the same. Given the external and religious forces at work, I doubt it.

I doubt if Saddam would have just gone off to where ever he was going (:diablo: ) without installing one or other of his brood to takeover from him. Things would have continued as before…unless someone had deposed him by peacefull means rather that igniting the whole country in what is now a civil war..

The Iragi’s have no chance of democracy at the present time. Iraq is too divided within itself along tribal and religious grounds to survive.

The real problem will be when someone ( like SOC !! ) comes along to try and figure out where the ” new ” countries will be that will replace Iraq.

What is your problem?! The UN named the source of the violance and the cycle from that. Nothing more and nothing less.
Maybe I am cynic, when I claim, that several US-people may regret, not having left Saddam in power after 1991. The USA alone may have had 3000 death and much more wounded less by that. All people get the government they deserved and the Iraqis are no exception from that.

Ok…think you may wish to check this posting to clarify some of your points…

Saddam was left in power after 1991…..

by Bush Snr, after all Various American Admins had effectively kept him in power for many years before that.

the next point i cant understand at all…

and as for the last point about people getting the government they deserve…

I think you need a bit of a reality check if you seriously believe that!!! after all we are talking about one seriously ruthless dictator here ( Saddam H ) and i really cant believe that you honestly think that the Iraqi people, or for that matter any people, deserve GW as their leader!!!

The problem is that your average Iraqi doesn’t care so much about Iraq as he does about being a Shia or a Sunni or a Kurd. Want to really start being proactive? Cut Iraq into three parts based on religion and ethnicity. Make a Kurdish state, a Shia state, and a Sunni state, and move on. Then you’ll start seeing some progress and see the citizens becoming a lot more proactive in keeping order and becoming involved with the workings of their homeland, because the idea of their homeland will actually appeal to them and hold a substantial meaning to them.

spot on! but i reckon that as happened here back in the 1920’s you would find that the various factions would end up claiming the juicy bits or the bits they thought they could control with the least amount of trouble.

    who gets the oil fields?

mind you if some damned fool had looked at the map as not being something you drew straight lines on but instead as something you used to show tribal lands and different ethnic groupings before deciding where he drew his lines…..Well then this problem which started back in the 1920’s (?) would not still be the mess it is today

Oh well some stupid clowns now want to give out vouchers to drug addicts who are on treatment programes etc.
This just does my head in ok the vouchers may only be for about £10 per week but when I work my bloody guts out every week I would like to see an extra £10 per week in my bank, not being given out to people who are doing sod all every day.

Why oh why does anyone have jobs these days, because if you do they tax and tax you like mad. Yet people who dont or wont work or take drugs or get sent to prison have people doing all they can to make life nice for them, its a disgrace 🙁

Total insult to all who work

    Andrewman,

the payment of some small amount to these addicts can on the surface seem like just another example of the Nanny state letting the bad guys away with wrongdoing…

But look at it this way…it can help.

Not everyone on a drug addiction programme is a criminal, a rapist or a housebreaker. Some ,by all means not all, have fallen on hard times and have taken to drugs in the same way that some people start heavy drinking or overeating when faced with a crisis or major detrimental change in their lives.some have become addicted through experimentation at a young age when they didnt know any better.

look at the weekly payments made to some 2nd level students to encourage them to remain at school. As you will know for some kids it is hard to stay at school when they could be out earning a wage (not much but better than nothing) .

Well this system works for these poorer kids and keeps them at school, gives them a chance to better their futures.

so who is to say that this minimal support might not help at least some of these drug addicts to return to a more normal existence?

Well there is your answer Andrewman. You are working hard to support one of your nations drones and many apparently believe you should be happy to do it. Just think. If you don’t pony up the 10 quid that guy might just steal it from you. Break into your house and take your DVD. He might also kill you or rape your wife of daughter. So just go along with it andrewman.

Be a good sport. Don’t get pissed as you drive to work in the A.M. and see the drone waive to you. After all that is your assurance that your home and family will be safe. Get with the program!

    Sauron

“might just steal it from you…”

“might also kill you or rape your wife…..”

Lot of “mights” dont you think?

Lot of generalisations dont you think?

Might be an idea to send them off to a work camp along with all the rest of the ” undesirables” ….you know….the Gypsies, those with learning difficulties, those of a different Political belief , those who dont think kick someone when they are down…

Oh course treatment programmes and education might be a better idea ..but hey its a great selfish anti-liberal world out there !!!!

That is the business of the Iraqi themselves and not the achivement of the USA.

I have heard a few strange statements on this forum but this is the limit !

So the intervention of the US/UK has made no contribution to the diabolical situation in Iraq?

Yes there would have been murders by the former regime but on the scale of deaths which have occured since the invasion? i dont think so !

    http://icasualties.org/oif/Iraqi.aspx

one thing is certain…3000+ American & 130+ UK Servicemen would not have met an untimely end in a foreign land far from home and their loved ones, Never mind the Aussies, Dutch,Poles, Italians …….

All dead because of lies and greed.

I dont think any one is saying “things were better when I were a lad”, certainly not I.

The biggest problem I see for TV is not bad language, but the lack of imagination, vision and daring. Too many programs look and feel the same, often with the same presenters.

    Bring back Eric and Ernie!!!!

I think we are lucky in that we have some excellent drama ( Sharpe, Cold Case, Midsomer Murders, Judge John Deed) factual ( Ray Mears, Timewatch, Trek ) , comedy ( Last of the summer wine but deffo not Little Britian !!) .

But its exactly as you say with a lot of the mainstream mass audience crud that they are putting out .Tedious and boring.
