There are so many great stories out there, but whether they would transfer well to movies is another matter….

    Personal favourites of mine include
‘Fly for your life’ (about Bob Stanford Tuck),
‘Night Fighter’ (written by Jimmy Rawnsley about himself and John Cunningham)
    ‘Lancaster target’ (Jack Currie)

The story of Operation Jericho is another great one of course, although I suppose ‘Mosquito Squadron’ was loosely based on the mission.I think it has been noted here before that the acting was more wooden than the Mossies! 😀

three very very good books and would make excellant material for a film..

What about the story of the late Bill Reid VC?

Bit off topic but from many years ago i remember another Night fighter book …Beau’s and Mossies….cant remember the author…any ideas??

Considering we are all supposed to be decendents of a Lady in Africa, that makes us cousins. Therefore we are cousins fighting cousins. The differences between us are purely superficial, skin colour, language, facial features etc etc. But that’s enough to create a sense of division between us. I think that many years from now the racial skin tone in general will be Tan and Black, White skin will be very uncommon. Then we will be back where we started from. Visual impressions of one another will always be important, and people of the same racial group will always feel more comfortable together, than with a different group. It’s difficult to change centurys of thinking in a few generations. 🙂

would be nice if this could happen…..but in the real world…

Those who live and prosper by the divisions and discrimination so prevalent in society will never ever let it happen…

They will always find something, if not race then religion, if not religion then class…and it goes on and on…and has done for time immemorial

Are you saying there is no truth in media stories which come from reputable sources?
Surely some of these stories are true, or is it all make believe. Can we ignore what we read and assume everything is perfect. Fortunately we have the media to inform us that not everything in Britain is rosy under labour. What about the crime that dosn’t get reported. It is a fact that gun and knife crime are out of control. Drug taking is on the increase, nothing is being done to stop it. A third of cars are driven by people who don’t have Tax, insurance or a License. That’s just some of the problems, it can’t be all made up surely!!

Yes maybe we cant tar all the media with the same brush but Have to agree with the Grey one 😀 you have to take most of the stuff in the papers or for that matter on a lot of the Tv channels with a large pinch of salt..use them for the basics of the story and disregard the rest!!!!

[QUOTE]I apply the same thing to the Arabic Muslims in question. Why should I ever care what they think about me? I don’t forsee most of them warming up to me anytime soon and it’s because I do not practice the Islamic faith primarily, and also partly because I’m not Arabic myself. I’m just as guilty I suppose though because I don’t want to get to know any of them. I figure if I keep my distance then it shouldn’t matter what my opinion is or their opinion is. I know it sounds simplistic, and maybe it is, but at the end of the day am I any worse off for not getting to know a Muslim? I don’t really think so. I think they would feel the same about getting to know me. Why should they care what I think of them? The answer is they shouldn’t.

Dont beleive all you read or see on TV..most Muslims DONT have a problem with people of other faiths.

By getting to know a people and their culture maybe it might give you an insight into what you are getting yourself into…It might actually help you handle a situation in Iraq…

Simple example…Somalia…American Choppers flying over with soldiers dangling their feet over the side…..This is highly offensive to Muslims…Why didnt someone know this ?….because no one cared!!

I cannot agree more with the last postings by Viper and Megalith. We are after all heavily influenced by our perception of others and how we think they see us.

And again to repeat what i , and others , have said before, Phantom II, I very much doubt that anyone on this forum has anything but the hope that you return safe and sound from your detachment to the Middle East. We do care about each other even if we could meet each other in the street and not know them, We do care !

…or am i just a bit soft in the head ???

Being an old person I can remember similar stories appearing in the “scandal sheets” in the 1980s, during the reign of Queen Margaret the Thatch.

All that this proves is that, bye and large, we get the press we deserve.

speaking as one not soo old…. :dev2:

Seems that all you need to do is fall over in the street and there has to be someone to sue!!!

Is the UK getting to the stage where the press are too tied to their political masters?

doesnt seem to be such a problem here where the media both printed and visual have been going after some of the demi gods!!…church, banks and politicians! but we do have a ” claim ” culture here as well with resultant H&S hysteria!!!

Hey you figured out the quote thing finally 😀

    dont count on it…………LOL !

Well there’s a shocker. It’s been that way pretty much since the beginning. The difference is you have two groups of people in Iraq (speaking of Iraqis, not foreign fighters). Those that want us out now and are willing to fight, and those that want us out now but are willing to let us go about our business because they 1) don’t appreciate the first group killing them, and 2) realize that we’re actually trying to repair their infrastructure and whatnot.

should have been clearer, was referring to the latest poll taken in Iraq which found that 80%( or was it 75%) wanted foreign miltary forces out of Iraq immediately.

Depends on your perspective. I’d argue that the world is both more and less safe as a result. I’ll go into that more a little bit later when I feel like typing a lot.

    again apologies for lack of clarity, was referring to this;
