I am sorry to say that, but most of the history (any history) known to us is just a question of interpretation.
…and what side you were /would have been on!!!
Possibly what appears to be arrogance ,is in fact the product of a unique set of circumstances, the like of which most of us have never known (and never will). Look at Bader as an example ,he survives a horrific accident, pre war and comes through the toughest aerial battle ever, without a scratch; who would’nt question their own mortality, with people dying all around you, potentially you either end up with survivors guilt or else a feeling of superiority .Bader and the like were presented as heros (by both sides) the propagandists built these people up as a boost to public moral, but with no thoughts as to how the individuals would deal with the situations presented; one of the few post war illustrations of this would be George Best ; flawed characters no, human beings yes (to err is to be human).
Let us not forget as well that these men were born and raised in a different age with different attitudes and a very different class “system”. Their attitude to others, especially those of a perceived lower class, would have been the norm.PC was an unknown and to some unneeded idea at that time.
Rudeness and arrogance doesnt go down too well with the film watching public though !!!
“That said it does all place a strain on our NHS srevices etc, when we are struggling to cope with the amount of people born here, let alone 1,000,000 or so more.”
….and another 970,000 contributions to the tax book will be a help!!!
The seem to rarely take any sick days anyway!!!

I would like too put a slightly different slant on all this . There does seem too be rhyme and reason in our development as an intelligent Species. Idea’s in our mind’s are transformed into physical manisfestations. Surely if oil happen’s too be available and our mind devises method’s of Transport which use this basic material, there can’t be much wrong with that. Yes , we are using and abusing this Planet, but I don’t see much wrong in that. Obviously we can go too far,and that’s when the warning signs appear. Our development and survival is only guaranteed by our actions, we are being put too the test. So until we have the improved Technology( wake up out there) we are going too have a hard time . Until our leaders realise, that putting money into technological progress, is more important than raking in Taxes off of Fuel , we won’t progress. 🙂

Some of the technology has been there for ages but its not in the interest of various industries to allow them to develop. Many years ago car engines were modified to accept bio fuels such as methane….but the oil companies wouldnt make much from that would they??? 😡

Wind turbines on every house to provide power at a ‘local level’.
Large wind farms and wave power generators to provide the bulk of the energy needs in this country, whilst some coal fired power stations with the latest emmissions cleaning equipment can provide extra capacity when required (or when the wind drops!).
I’m not a great fan of bio-diesel as we should be using the land to grow crops to eat, rather than to power cars…
Regards,
Dan
Compromise is the only solution that holds any hope of success , we cant expect the world to change overnight.but we must address the problems that mans actions and needs are causing.
In both the Uk and Ireland it is only recently that Government has addressed these issues..our homes are not efficient , our heating systems the same.On an individual level we should look to those who have to live in more extreme climates.the Scandinavians and those living in the Alps didnt have Oil years ago…Wood pellet/grain burners seem to be one solution that has been available for years both in Europe and the states and only arriving here now..
Wind /wave power is after all freely available..in practice we prob would have to continue to use some fossil fuels for some time untill we educate ourselves to the new ways…
With regards to using bio fuels overe here we recently closed the last major sugar production facility in the country..effected farmers are now being encouraged to switch to the production of “bio” crops .We have after all a surplus in the production of many agricultural products so why not use the land for more efficient or needed crops?

Wasn’t there some ill feeling in the fifties to the wind-rush imigrations.I believe if any one wants to come here and WORK then good luck to them, most immigrant workers take on the jobs most of us would turn down as too manual or under paid.Just a thought as what the Spanish thought of the British retiring in the Costa’s bumping house prices up and only employing British labour.
and the Spanish are now apparently fed up with Non nationals retiring to Spain and depending on the Spanish health system to look after them when they fall ill!!!
You are correct about the “dirty ” job syndrome..here in Ireland we have a few eejets who are complaining about “their ” jobs being “stolen” by non nationals…these same people from my knowledge in a lot of cases havent worked in 10 years, mostly due to back injuries!!!!!
Most employers i know who have employed eastern Europeans are more than delighted with their work ethic & enthusiasm…they are hard working .well mannered and diligent.
More regulation of minimum wage and registration would be a solution.

Not sure what the middle east would export if it wasn’t for Oil, and I don’t think reducing Oil consumption would bring peace. There are other reasons for middle east problems as we all know. In fact reducing Oil consumption may be the Straw that finally breaks the Camels back in the middle east.

Seeing as most if not all the profits from oil dont go to the ordinary people but only to either multinational companies or a few Sheiks…and yes a lot of the conflicts in the ME have been down to , strangely enough, water!!!

“Nuclear energy is the perfect solution to the world’s energy needs insofar as electricity is concerned. The problem is that the freaking greens hear “nuclear” and they get spun up over Chernobyl. Chernobyl, however, was the exception, and not the rule. Besides, if we figure fusion out on a large scale, the byproduct is pure water. Helps you to solve water issues as well!”
“Find a 2
different, and valid, argument if you want to trash the idea of nuclear energy.”
Try looking at these sites and then tell me that it is worth the risk of this happening again…
