Still no open-ness, it would appear! £200-250K to get where? To tide the project over? To get it to first flight? To get it through flight testing? To get it ready for its first air show? The 558club website says £1.2M to get it ready for its first air display. If that’s correct, this cash call is merely another one in a sequence that seems likely to continue for some time to come. Commercial organisations like Marshall, Waltons, BAe, Rolls Royce have shareholder interests to manage in preference to sentimentality. HLF were told what it’d cost – is it their fault the figures were wrong, and why should they spend more in the belief that any further figures are any more likely to be right? Time to draw a line in the sand. Time to take a step back. Time to put a realistic plan in place that takes the aircraft from now to the show circuit. Time to assess what financial commitment is truely required, in TOTAL, to put this aircraft back on the show circuit (and beyond), with contingency funding identified in case further unforeseen overruns occur. Without the above, more money now has the potential to be throwing good money after bad. Minor donations may come in, but unless the project is put on a professional and realistic long term footing with the costs and risks clearly understood, no major commercial sponsor is likely to want to take the investment risk.

    Right on the button!!

Wonder who if anyone looked for a Business plan at the start of all this??? I honestly would love to see something like the Vulcan back in the air but no one seems to be able to say how the running costs were going to be catered for in the future..looks like a distinct lack of forward thinking.

Was it ever going to be a realistic project? Is it now?

From a thirty year old Aviation news…much abbreviated!!!

“In the North of England some Albemerle centre sections have been found but details being kept secret…..”

“….the remains of one lie on the Roches , a hill near Leek.”

“Russia recd a number of Albemerles but what they were used for is obscure”

“…The Rusian crews were trained at Errol near Dundee.one of these aircraft,P1503 ,hit a hill near Aberfeldy….its remains are said to be still there…”

and NO I dont have too many of these ancient Aviation News mags….damn it!!! 🙁

Fantastic aircraft but was it every realistic to think that it could have flown and kept flying? Where was the money to keep juice in the tanks going to come from year after year?

i have great admiration for those involved and if they CAN raise the funds more power to them ! my heart goes out to you who have obviously put blood sweat and tears into something you were devoted to.

But i fear that this will turn into a series of court cases and recriminations about who did what ,who said what, who authorisied this…

    Mr clarke,

“Hurrifan has offered up the tired old tactic of shifting attention to side issues”

No not really simply pointing out what would appear to be double standards and NOT on my behalf..

“The two posts complained of were direct personal remarks. A member’s race, colour, creed, politics or gender are no-one’s business but their own. “

Wrong again, they were comments on the present attitude of some people that they are never wrong…given with an emphasis on humour ..obviously lost on someone like yourself.

race religion creed etc were never mentioned Blairism is now rapidly approaching Oxford dictionary status as being a discription of someone who follows the lead and buries their head in the sand not wanting to change!!!!

and on and on and on…..I was the one( and i think the only one) that AJ was going to use her boots on but it was a JOKE !!! and taken as one…

Swearing ??? i presume you mean ****? …well sorry but thats life !!!

But the noteworthy fact is that you have totally ignorred the questions put to you!!! If soo worried about “rude ” postings why havent you addressed those “personal ” remarks made to me ???

why not address comments passed to ali about her true motives and what could be taken as a comment on her mental state / attitude???

why if soo worried about insulting people didnt you contact either of us by PM???? and no i dont mean vis friend Tony!!!! ( JOKE! )

think we can put this down to another example of do as i say not as i do!!!!!

and that isnt a joke by the way!!!!

    Hi all,

Over the years I have seen some examples of the RR Vulture 24 cilinder X-engine. One was reasonable having been recovered from soft ground in the northern part of Holland. Ours came from the north sea and looks terrible and another one we only recovered gears and other internals from.

Are there any examples that could be restored to static condtion and possibly for a Manchester reconstruction? Something I have been wondering about for ages.

    Cheers

    Cees

YE GODS !!! a manchester??? now that would be something !!! Thye are extinct arnt they?
