TV signals here in my part of Ireland are bad at the moment for the UK stations from a transmitter approx 50 miles away.

Sun spots or even sunny WX were brilliant back in the old CB radio days!!! meant tyou could get all sorts of wierd and wonderfull contacts into various parts of the world..Was talking to a pal who started using 27 mhz again in the last few months and apparently the ” skip “or DX signals are brilliant again….time for the old breaker breaker again !! or should be “CQ CQ DX ” !!!

    MR.Clarke,

Seeing as you seem soo concerned about offensive posting why didnt you address these?

“but I find it difficult to believe that the CWGC would allow a situation such as you describe to continue. The rest of the paragraph is nonsense.”

Firstly i find it OFFENSIVE to have my honesty questioned..i have since supplied a link to a site where this issue was raised..with no response or an apology..

Secondly dont you think that describing anothers opinion as “nonsense” is offensive?

Now I couldnt be bothered raising this before as i dont go running off blubbing everytime someone says ” BOO” but if someone is going to try and publically run other posters down and lecture them as to their conduct I feel that they could at least try a bit of fair play and equal treatment!

Aviation Forums members have, by dint of three years of sometimes bitter struggle, generally managed to rise above the level of uncalled for personal remarks.

The acceptable standard of behaviour is clearly documented at registration and in the code of conduct on each and every board here. The Webmaster and volunteer moderators are generally helpful in resolving lapses but they cannot be here all the time.

Members who cannot manage to put their case without descending to personal attack do nothing to advance their case, their credibility, or the reputation of the boards.

Members unable to moderate their own behavior to a basic standard of civility would be better off seeking other boards where poor behaviour is tolerated.

If this tread is a cause for concern there is always the option of private message rather than the “naughty girl/boy ” lecturing approach .There is enough of that attitude from some of the “contributors ” (?) to this tread without the moderators adopting same!

In addition some of these ” contributors” need to develop a sense of humour & common courtesy for others opinions . Or maybe THEY should find a different forum!!!!

Hi Hurrifan – my earlier post, the same one you quoted from.

There have been some good points made here, and some interesting debate. However the core thread is going nowhere, and so that’s it from me.

JDK…..looks like a case of do as i say not as i do!!!! LOL

Debate is not contained within the thread originator’s input here, I’m afraid.

Debate is difficult when stifled by negativity and a lack of willingness to accept new ideas, by the attempted silencing of those with different ideas or visions….But then i was never one to put up with demi gods even the ones with guns or uniforms!!! LOL

Yes, I believe that in 2045, providing that we teach well, the sacrifices made by previous generations will be remembered. A Spitfire is not the only, and not necessarily the best way to teach people history.

A…..Really? It might not be the be all and end all but dont you think it would provide a very powerfull image? an undeniable reminder of the futility of war?

Having never been to Gallipoli, I cannot comment on your example, but I find it difficult to believe that the CWGC would allow a situation such as you describe to continue. The rest of the paragraph is nonsense. Look at the numbers of poppies that are worn in November. People are still very aware of what happened during the Great War, and many people are making very considerable efforts to ensure that we will not forget those who gave.

    A…….not having your lack of manners i will not stoop to your level of offensiveness .i merely refer you to the following ;

http://www.cwgc.co.uk/ and NO its not the commonweath war graves site! There might be no way now to i.d such remains but surely you would agree it would be worth the effort? and the continued refusal to allow recognition is unbeleivable!

A……..Yes people might wear poppies but how many of them really give a damn? how many even know what their history is? How many of them give as muchas a hoot the rest of the year? Yes there are many dedicated people and more power to them but in twenty/thirty years who knows ?

Again, I’d argue that point. Have you tried visiting the CWGC site?

A……frequently .As someone actively involved in tracing war graves on a voluntary basis i use the site and some of its excellant facilities ona regular basis. However have you ever tried contacting them? by email they dont bother to reply..by phone perpetual hold.

Why is it wrong for commercial interests to be involved if they can do the job well? Commercial interests have been responsible for filling many important gaps. What is important is that any recovery operation is done well, and these operations cost money. And if the recovered aircraft head out over the Atlantic, so what? JDK provided a pretty good case for allowing them do do so.

A……..Commercial interests HAVE been resposable for the loss of some very significant losses as well.Gone to look at some BOB airfields recently? Well dont blink because every year they disappear. We have recently lost an ancient fort here ..grubbed out to make way for a ruddy pipe line!!! and thats something that could be 900 years +old!

A…….”so what”? to allow them into the hands of people who will use the i.d and damn all else to make loads of dosh ? Much better that they are displayed in a proper museum either as recovered or restored .

I’ll not comment on that one. Forumites can reach their own conclusions after reading Allison’s posts.

A……..Looks like a case of the old school tie……old boy! New blood, new ideas a bit scary ?

    Best wishes
    Steve P

    BEst wishes??? i doubt it!!!!

In all honesty i think we must where possible and practical recover crashed aircraft . I I am sure that there have been plenty of occasions where recovered wreckage has been destroyed/dumped to placate the demands of Commerce and “big ” money .

I know of quite a few cases here where bones and other artifacts ( no financial value )from 100+ years ago where dumped in skips to prevent delays on building projects.

there is as previously stated no guarantee that if they are left they will remain undamaged . there are too many unscrupulous people out there , never mind those who would take the wreakage away for purely financial gain without regard to the historic significance of what they hold.
