Would it be worth getting Nelson to do a copy of his tailplane stubs??
Ian have you tried talking to Nelson Ezell, he has a tempest and extensive manufacturing abilities, his shop is in Breckenridge, Texas, well worth a look!!
Guys, c’mon!!! No one is perfect, Spencer did an huge bonus to the UK scene with his 3 red aircraft, how many of you know that he purchased 1 of 3 lots of Fury parts from Germany, that lot ended up here in Oz to help refurbish the 3 Furies we did so his contribution goes on!!! this thread is about VX 281!!
Hmmm, that might have caused an issue, there are at least 3 Centaurus flying in the US that were built in Aust, all appear to be msking the correct music, I think you see just as many issues with the other big radials, the French Fury115 is an example, its 3350 made metal even before leaving the US and then failed again at legends, a good pre oiler is critical!! my 2 cents:)))
Paul was in the process of sorting out the sleeve issue for his engines, not sure that would have extended to making them for others due to liability issues,I have seen pics of a complete bottom end he did, beautiful work:))))
No, VZ 345 is still at Wangaratta but the FB 11 has gone to the US, someone needs to step up and manufacture some sleeves!!! All the research has been done but the people who need them the most have to be willing to put money into the manufacture if they want their Furies to fly!!!
So Ian, have you asked the Smithsonian if they will do a straight swap for your engine?? Surely thats a fair deal if your engine is made to appear the same externally:)))))))
Yes Jager, Corsair was en route to Tyabb from Pt Cook yesterday, with three pilots endorsed you should see it more often:))))
Interesting theory Detective, he would have needed a wide load escort:)))) Mark I am curious as to the other ‘missing items’ you mention, there are no real spitfire shops here IMO except perhaps Avspecs, certainly none like the UK shops, Pays look after their own machines, can you elaborate on what identified parts?? On a different note HS669 looks awesome in that Indian scheme, would love to see a spit on the display circuit in those colours!!!Pete
Haha Andy, that alarm would have driven me nuts if I was trying to do an interview!!!
Cranswick, that is amazing info, really interesting reading!!! thanks, Pete
Hi Anthony, I asked the same question in the Tempest cockpit thread, short answer was: make them which I did out of phenolic/bakelite, have since seen the same knobs on a Canberra so you may be able to try that direction, cheers, Pete
Thanks alloy, looking forward to whatever you can pass on, hope shared knowledge between you & Dave can progress both projects, awesome stuff!!! Pete
Alloy thats fantastic!! Really looking forward to hearing about both projects!!
Typhoon or Tempest??? If you mean the ex New Zealand one it is a Tempest, are you able to give us more details?:)))
