What an awesome machine, just as good as Fury 115 and all the different schemes she wore.Has anyone by chance had a look at TFC’s Sea Fury, would be interested to know who did the Centaurus rebuild.cheers,Pete
Hi Steve, that gent is correct, every one of the sleeve drive gears has a timing mark as do all the idler gears. There may be a difference in timing marks between front & rear rows but if you have the maint & overhaul manual the timing procedure is laid out for you.I feel for RNHF,the removal & teardown again must be a source of total frustration.Maybe the front & rear sleeves have been mixed as they are also different, cheers,Pete
Hi Dave, the Boomerang in the States was rebuilt by Sanders Aviation in parallel with the one for Guido Zuccoli,I believe its now owned by someone in Florida.Dennis Sanders owned it in conjunction with Dale Clarke,it was modified with a retractable tailwheel & modified T-6 wings but used the basics of a Boomerang frame to give it an identity.Credit where credit is due,Classic Wings is a great mag, every type gets its fair share of coverage.
cheers,Pete
Hi all,at last,a decent thread that does not contain the words Spitfire or Mustang!!Could I ask you U.K.gents for some more pics of the TFC Sea Fury, nice to see it progressing.Setter, great pics of Fury 308,I started my engineering apprenticeship working for Guido Zuccoli just before 308 was completed so got to have a lot of fun with all 3 furies we restored. The biggest issue with the Centaurus is the availability of sleeves,I believe Paul Morgan was working on this before his untimely death. Most operaters have a set and do not want to part with them, understandably.Great forum, cheers,Pete
Hi Mark 12,are you able to say who in Oz has TE566,is this part of the rebuild of Barry Corans Spitfire as well?Cheers ,Pete
Favourite paint scheme
Hi all,my favourite would have to be Fury 115(G-BTTA to those in the U.K.)Awesome aircraft to be around ‘in the flesh’.I was impressed with its subsequent paintjobs ref previous posted pics by LAHARVE.Just out of interest, the centre section of G-FURY ended up in Darwin in very poor cond after its crash and was used as a source of spares for the 3 Furies rebuilt here.
Cheers,Pete
Thanks Ant,who is doing the Centaurus? The same q got asked ref TFC’s Sea Fury engine.I believe Ricardos did the engine for RNHF and had some dramas with ground running. The only other engine shop I know of is Mike Nixon’s.Having seen the internal working of one or two it is a pretty impressive piece of engineering.I realise the Tempest engine is a different model to the Fury but the principles should be the same.Either way it will be a fantastic thing to hear & see.Cheers,Pete
I know, why don’t they bolt a Centaurus onto it,prop clearance might be a problem but it will go like buggery!!It’ll even sound much better, cheers,Pete
Hi all,can anyone tell me why the engine has been removed from the TFC Hurricane.Cheers,Pete
