At least some of the roughly 480 high-performance SA-24 “Grinch” shoulder-launched missiles that disappeared during the Libyan uprising have reappeared in the hands of insurgents on the borders of Israel, say senior Israeli officials.
Royal Norwegian Air Force C-130J Crashes
The Norwegian military fear a Hercules transport plane carrying five people has crashed while flying to Sweden during a winter exercise.
The Norwegian air force C-130 was heading from Evenes in northern Norway to the Swedish city of Kiruna where it was supposed to pick up personnel.

N. Korea To Launch Earth Observation Satellite In April
North Korea said Unha-3 rocket carrying Kwangmyongsong-3 will blast off from its satellite launching station in North Pyongan Province between April 12 and 16, the Korean Committee for Space Technology said in Pyongyang.
The launch of a satellite built by indigenous technology is designed “to mark the 100th birth anniversary of President Kim Il-sung,” the country’s founder and the late grandfather of current leader Kim Jong-un, the committee said.
SAR 2012: China rescue service to purchase eight new helicopters
The China Rescue and Salvage (CRS) service is planning to purchase eight additional medium helicopters during 2012, following a significant investment from the Chinese government.
In the next five years, the government plans to inject more than $2.1 billion into the organisation, according to Capt Jiahui Song, CRS director general, speaking at the SAR Europe conference in Dublin on 16 March.
Russia To Get More S-300V4 (SA-12 Giant/Gladiator)
Russia’s Defense Ministry has signed a three-year deal with air-defense missile systems manufacturer Almaz-Antei for delivery of S-300V4 (SA-12 Giant/Gladiator) air defense missile systems, the ministry said on Monday.
The deal was signed by Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov and Almaz-Antei director Vladislav Menshchikov.
“In accordance with the contract, three battalions of S-300V4s will be delivered and put in service in Russia’s southern military district, the Ministry said.
North Korea Deploys More Anti-Aircraft Missile
North Korea has increased the number of anti-aircraft missiles deployed near the capital in preparation for potential attacks by U.S. and South Korean planes, a report said March 7.
The number of SA-5 surface-to-air missiles with a maximum range of 300 kilometers (190 miles) sited near Pyongyang rose from two in 2000 to 40 in 2010, Yonhap news agency said, quoting a Seoul military source.

An Israeli-made military jet fighter went down Tuesday morning at Fallon Naval Air Station in northern Nevada, resulting in the fatal injury of the pilot.
Authorities say a pilot for a defense contractor is dead after an Israeli-made military fighter jet crashed at Fallon Naval Air Station in northern Nevada.
The airplane, an F-21 Kfir fighter (pictured) which was owned by defense contractor Airborne Tactical Advantage Co. based in Newport News, VA, went down just inside the west gate of the base, according to a report in the Associated Press. The weather was snowy and foggy, according to Petty Officer 1st Class Doug Harvey. Base and company officials say the F-21 Kfir (kuh-FEER) aircraft crashed just after 9:15 a.m. Tuesday inside the west gate of the military airfield, about 60 miles east of Reno.
Turkey’s military says an air force jet has crashed in central Turkey, killing the pilot.
The military says in a statement that the Northrop F-5 plane went down near the city of Konya on Tuesday during a training flight. It says the cause of the crash was under investigation.
The state-run Anadolu Agency says the plane belonged to the Air Force’s aerobatic team, the Turkish Stars.

GA-ASI furthers Predator radar development
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) has furthered the development of its Due Regard Radar for the Predator B by testing a prototype on a manned aircraft.
Announced by the company on 22 February, the radar was demonstrated aboard a Twin Otter aircraft on 17 October in Borrego Springs, California, US.
Saab Touts Gripen to Malaysia, Region
As Malaysia listed the Swedish-made Gripen multi-role combat aircraft (MRCA) as one of its possible choices for its new generation fighter jets, Saab, the manufacturer of the aircraft, is harping on its long-term cost effectiveness.
Saab media relations manager Peter Liander said the cost of the whole life cycle of its MRCA in terms of maintenance, operations and flying was more effective as compared to other MRCA of its class.
Indian Air Force (IAF) Mirage-2000 crashes, pilot safe
A Mirage-2000 fighter plane of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Monday crashed near a village in Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur district, soon after taking off from an airbase in Gwalior, in a second mishap involving the aircraft type in 11 days.
The pilot managed to eject safely, IAF officials said. This is the second crash involving a Mirage-2000 aircraft since February 24.
“The crash took place 100 kilometres south-west of Jaipur near Baman Baas village in Sawai Madhopur district. Soon after taking off from Gwalior, the plane crashed at 1245 hours. The pilot managed to bail out safely,” the officials said.
Czech Republic upgrades SA-6 with Aspide 2000 missiles

The Czech Retia company seated in Pardubice has developed a new missile guidance system solving the replacement of the original Soviet-made missiles for the 2K12 KUB anti-aircraft missile complex, Petr Tichy, from Retia, has told reporters. The company presented results of its research commissioned by the Defence Ministry on Tuesday.
The Apside Italian missile has been selected as the most suitable replacement of the 3M9M3 Soviet-made missile. The control system had to be completely changed for its integration.
Russian Air Force to Receive Six Su-35 Flanker-E Fighters by Year End
The Russian Air Force will receive the first six Sukhoi Su-35 Flanker-E multirole fighter jets by the end of 2012, spokesman Col. Vladimir Drik said on Monday. “Su-35 is in the final stages of flight testing at the Akhtubinsk testing and pilot training center [Volga Region],” Drik said. “The first six series-production Su-35s will be delivered to the Air Force by the end of 2012.”
The Su-35, powered by two 117S engines with thrust vectoring, combines high maneuverability and the capability to effectively engage several air targets simultaneously using both guided and unguided missiles and weapon systems.
