• The government of Oman has requested that BAE Systems submit a formal bid for the supply of Typhoon fighter aircraft. The move clarifies the Middle East nation’s continuing commitment to the program following delays in completing negotiations.

Russia to Send Syria Yak-130 Jets
• Russia has signed a contract to sell combat jets to Syria, Kommersant reported Monday, in apparent support for President Bashar Assad and open defiance of international condemnation of his regime’s bloody crackdown.
• The newspaper, citing an unidentified source close to the Rosoboronexport state arms trader, said the $550 million deal envisions the delivery of 36 Yak-130 aircraft.
North Korea military pledges support for new leader
North Korea’s powerful military has held a mass rally to pledge loyalty to the country’s new chief Kim Jong-un, vowing to become “rifles and bombs” to protect him, official media said Tuesday.
The North also announced a rare amnesty for prisoners as the untested young leader tries to build support.
Sikorsky and Suppliers Will Self-Fund Raider Development
Sikorsky Aircraft named 35 suppliers participating in an industry-funded effort to build two prototype S-97 Raider helicopters for evaluation by the U.S. military.
The Raider is a follow-on to the company’s X2 technology demonstrator with coaxial contra-rotating main rotors and a pusher propeller.

Aurora wins Solar Eagle contract
Aurora Flight Sciences has announced that it has been awarded a contract to design and fabricate structural components for the Boeing SolarEagle unmanned aircraft vehicle.
Awarded by Boeing, the contract will see Aurora work on the ribs and skins for the 400 foot long wing and the solar collection panels.
