Well, Europe is the the same like any of the other governments in Europe. It’s only bigger, much bigger. 😉

Fins and logistics (not our Nordic friends): If you need to airlift a box that has twice the volume and 10 to 20% more mass (think at the box material etc…) 200 times a week during war operation, this will impact directly your logistical train, cutting frontline units from needed supply etc… Logistics means choice: operational choices first and mainly.

AFAIK fins are not mounted on transport. So the box remains small.

The One on the F-4 was a LAD (Low Altitude Dispenser). The one on the F-16 was a LOCLAD (LOw Cost Low Altitude Dispenser). The LOCLAD was a cheaper and lighter and powered LAD with three Sidewinder motors.

What was the job of the Su-15? Wasn’t it a pure interceptor? So agility wasn’t demanded. Phantom can not be taken for comparison, because it was a multi role fighter. I would not compare similar aircraft. I would compare specific fighter with their likely opponents. Who were the opponents of the Su-15? In the southern area it was F-104 and F-4. The typical indicators say, that Su-15 should be more agile than F-104. Now we should take a deeper look into the details. Is there a flight manual of the Su-15 around?

This is LAD from Brunswick. It was part of a NATO wide program for a dispensing weapon. This led for example to the Franco German Apache wich was split into French Scalp/EG and German Taurus.

BTW… Mirage III was not considered. The choise was on Super Tiger or F-104. The responsible Luftwaffe general opted for the Super Tiger but Lockheed intervened with a lot of money for certain politicians…

In the end, F-104G performed very well on tree top level missions for these days, but was a very unsafe aircraft. The Mirage was droped because with it’s big wing performed bad in tree top level.

Tornado performed much better in tree top level than any other fighter, better than F-16 and other contemporary jets. It was the right choice for that job in these days.

Seems that Brexit is in progress. The availability of Key Publishing Forums is worse than ever here on the continent. What happens?

I am not sure. There are rumors of a new anti satellite weapon. May be this is it.
