Can someone please translate the data of the missile?
This is the air to surface missile Kinzhal.
This are SUU-7A/B cluster pods. Because there are other bombs under the wings it is loaded with CBU-1/46 and bomblets for a CAS operation not very far away (because there are no external tanks). Interesting pictures.
I’m also wrong about the J-20 vs F-22 scenario, the Block II Sidewinders have a reported range of about 40 km. Actual range is likely to be closer to 50 km. There’s also the FY-80, which has a rumored range of 80 km, but it’s an export missile and the 80 km is only rumored. The PL-10 ASR is only supposed to have around 20 km of range.
I don’t know where all these outstanding ranges come from, but they are IMHO exaggerated. A small missile like a Sidewinder and 50 or 80 km range? Forget it. There is no equivalent small missile around with comparable range. I even don’t believe the 180 km for AIM-120D. IMHO there are no official range data for AMRAAM available.
the germans and french have agreed to define exactly what they want the new platform to be, and not let any new “partner” get in and interfere with the requirements.. once it’s done, they’ll propose the deal “as is” to others (ok guys, here’s what we’ll do, do you want to play with us on it?), ensuring they know in which direction they go and don’t waste time in negotiations trying to please too many politicians with contradicting interests
This is the only way to prevent cost overrun, like on Eurofighter and A400M. The never ending story of politicians of different countries who want their special requirement build in is the grave digger of such projects. The new Franco/German way should be an acceptable way to make a working aircraft in an acceptable time frame.
I doubt that UK can afford such a project after Brexit. After some years the economy of UK will steadily decline say all serious forecasts.
AFAIK the FAB 1500 was in use on bombers only (Tu-16, Tu-22 ect.). The jets used the streamlined bombs of 1962 design and the heaviest was 500 Kg.
Tornado ADV, no. MiG-31 with R-33 yes, because R-33 was an active missile.
The AIM-7M got an autopilot and was able to shoot in the direction of the target without illumination from the beginning. The last version from 1987, AIM-7P, got a data link and was able to be provided with steering information from the aircraft without illumination. The CW illumination was switched on just before the target. In theory it should be able to illuminate two different targets when they are not too far apart so that the antenna has the time to steer to the new target when the first target was hit. If this was possible with APG-63 of the F-15C I don’t know.
To control drones means robot swarms. So, whats the problem? It means that the new fighter may be used maned and unmaned controlled by a maned aircraft, or many unmaned in a swarm with a swarm of drones and so on. Thats much more than a wanabee F-35.
Well, in 1978 both Yemens were not home of terrorists. We had a different description for terrorists than today. Not every one, not following our opinion, was a terrorist like nowadays. So where are the terrorists, gangsters or rebels coming from? Remains of the rebels of the Oman war? BTW, a mercenary is not always a fighter. In 1978 we called all who worked for foreign armies mercenary. Nowadays they are called contractors. Different words for the same job. I would like to understand this incident.
Was you a mercenary? Where from? Who were the opponents? Is there a link describing this conflict?
OK it has to do with aviation, then please tell your story. I am curious.
Sorry, I mean Sea Sparrow was NOT really effective against missiles.
I thing, from mid 70ies the most ships had Mk91 directors. Sea Sparrows was a point defence system against aircrafts. It could not really shoots down P-35. But in the 70ies there were some sort of soft defence available like chaff and ECM. I don’t know how prone P-35 was to chaff or ECM.
Well, the Russians were underestimated during the Cold War. But don’t think that every shoot was a hit. Even today SAMs are not perfect and can not guarantee a 100% success.
BTW, the Kyndas had eight ready missiles and eight reload missiles.
Sea Sparrow was really effective against missiles. The early Sea Sparrow with Mk115 director was man steered and not able to shoot down missiles. The more modern Mk91 director may be theoretical able to do it, but I am sure it was not really effective against missiles. The flight path of P-35 was unfavorable for Sea Sparrow and better suited for Terrier and Tartar. The P-35 flew with 1.3 mach, the reaction time was very short for Sea Sparrow. P-35 flew around 100m above sea for the last miles to the ship. It was removed in 2003. There were enough replacements for P-35 around in the Soviet/Russian Navy much earlier and why it was not replaced? It seems it was still effective.
