Not so! The only 600 series Viscounts were the prototye G-AHRF and the Tay-engined VX217/G-AHRG. Both G-ALWE and ‘LWF were V.701s
ooops don’t know what came over me you are right of course, interestingly they were provisionally registered before the 700 prototype G-AMAV
I have a thought that they were originally intended to be 600 series before Vickers had to change the design to suit BEA so were put back in the production with MAV being built first,
think the Viscount is very important as it’s a 630 the original specification, G-ALWE being the other
Big thank you to everyone who have made this thread so fantastic
dread to think what the back to flight costs would be
I think the Britannia is the best looking of all the post War prop Airliners
remember them well, they were around right up until plastic kits arrived
had to be quite skilled to carve them, a bit beyond my childhood abilities
Keil Kraft did them as well as Veron
sorry about this two others

it is sad from Commercial Aircraft point of view that the Britannia G-ABLO and the Viscount G-AMAV are no longer with us
I can remember it in the 50s, from memory the entrance did look similar and the control tower looks right as well,
there was further hangers across the A30 and they stopped the traffic to move aircraft, remember Neptunes being parked there and Argonauts as well
don’t you dare disappear Brian,
along with DCW you are the main reason I always come to this thread
I agree entirely with you that the minutiae of airshows is not really a subject for Duxford Diary
great prop blur on the Pitts
thanks, he seems to have transferred from the Army, his whole Cranwell intake looks to be Army as well, is this why he was a VR
Hi John, Alan Hubert Davidson known as ‘Dave’ all through his service, no service number yet although I now have his service record from the back of his log, I have him in 530, 610, 93, and 601, he volunteered for overseas duty and fought in Sicily and Italy, and has 1 confirmed FW190
how interesting, thanks for his service number, next time I get a chance to look at it I’ll see if it’s in his log,
thanks Peppermint Jam I’ll organise getting written permission
