just a quick question what’s the significance of the alloy ring panel behind the spinner on the Hurricane not all of them I’ve seen have it
there’s just something about Princess Elizabeth that appeals to me, maybe it’s the rarity or perhaps the colour scheme, anyway great that it’s in the UK for a while,
I’d love to get some 1/48 decals for it but it seems no one does them:apologetic:
you look at them and lose sight of just how much money is required not only to buy the aircraft but the cost of keeping it running, it makes my blood run cold, I doubt my credit card would cover it!!!!
as matter of interest how much does a Mustang prop cost?
EI-SLL was departing after a respray? I think Air Livery forgot to finish the job.. 😀
Great shots mate.
maybe they ran out of paint, great shots by the way
just goes to show how people think, I think it’s much better looking
great impressions, an interesting point, were the Mustang III painted in standard RAF colours or the different US equivalent colours that were available where they were built
It’s not that it has been done to death on restored airframes but overall in general. As a builder of scale flying models I can tell you that the “Shangri La” scheme is very prominent and it seems just about every manufacturer of B/C model Mustangs chooses that paint job for their product. Pretty sure it has been done to death on plastic and display models as well. It is much the same story with Ira Kepford’s Corsair and Alex Vraciu’s Hellcat schemes. Of course if you’re not involved with model aircraft of any sort than your perspective will probably be very different!
thanks Chad you put it far better than I did,
‘Princess Elizabeth’ is the best looking high back…………until someone paints one as ‘Salem Representative’:eagerness:
‘Boise Bee’ looks great too.
I like them all except Shangri-la it’s been done to death
I’d love to get some 1/48 decals for Princess Elizabeth I’d love to do a model
very interesting I’d read that the B/C were more stable than the D due to the side area and that the early Ds were not very nice until they fitted the strake to the fin, didn’t know about the guns before
what a good looking aeroplane love the nose and wing tips
But probably you didn’t have to fly one in combat.
I agree, rear vision leaves a lot to be desired, the Malcolm hood made things better, my liking them is purely aesthetic,

I used to think so too. Then this showed up at the Planes of Fame airshow last weekend and now I’m very torn!
I think any high back Mustang is great
