    Andy

Who will be the jockey for the evening?, will there be any other notable guests.

    Regards,

    John.

    John,

We are talking to Dennis, but he has not confirmed yet, so at the moment its gonna be me or my counter part Jim doing the runs, its only like an antidet run but with a crowd 😉

    Cheers

In this day and age I would imagine that No.5 is probably close to being the most important constraint, compensation culture being what it is.

    Mike,
Your spot on, and its getting worse 🙁

Just the way of the world we live Im affraid, it will put an end to it all one day

For give me if this question is totally inrelevand. But how come you don’t run both engines on reheat the same time?

    Herman

    Hi, yes there’s several reasons:

    1. We dont have any spigoted chocks (big steel curved ramps that the main wheels are placed into with two large diamater steel pins on the underside that locate in holes in the concrete that you can just see in the photo above) we couldnt possibly drill four large holes in Dave Waltons runway to hold them in place.
If we were to run both burners the aircraft would either push our standard rubber chocks forward or simply jump them even with brakes on, Ive seen it happen on one engine at full power, when chocks let go they dont always go together and the aircraft tends to spin though 90 degree’s in about a quarter of a second, well before the jockey has time to pull the throttle back.

    2. The book and experts say that reheat on both engines at the same time should be done with at an ‘amount’ of forward airspeed on the clock, basicly at full power there’s not enough air going down the front for both engines without the aid forward movement. It can be done but is not advised, remember our four Avons arent in their first flush of youth.

    3. The chap in the seat has one hell of a job managing both engines at the same time staticly, as No1 tends to stave No2 of air, JPT’s (most important), RPM’s, nozzle indications, fire warnings, engine oil warnings and fuel consumption (7 gallons per second) have to be watched very very closely.

    4. Noise, both in reheat staticly for 9 -10 seconds will really really really upset the locals late on a Saturday afternoon (we have planning restrictions on the noise we make) and any breech could spell the end of future events of any kind. Its a real ballancing act let me assure you.

    5. The nose leg will be over stressed with both in reheat staticly for any length of time. We dont have any spares.

    5. Lastly and most importantly, safety, both engines running at full tilt is a double risk for us and all around us and makes our insurers very very nervous.

    Cheers

    Hi gazz195,

Thanks for those, not much has changed since we were last up there in Feb 05 getting some pics and dimensions of the bungalow, I found it a really sad sight, and came away feeling really low, with the wind (and snow) blowing across there, you could almost hear the ‘weeeeee phut’ of a Lightning start if you strained your ears.

The inside was even worse, just full of rubbish and filthy farm equpiment.

Arh well you cant save em all, just come and see ours if you need to be given hope and a lift 😀

    Thanks

John, sorry Im late with this one, but 904 looks great, like youu say the colours arent perfect but a very nice model all the same 😉

As for me in 1/72 form ummmmm not sure 😀

We have a 1/72 scratch built Q shed in the cabin on the pan if your interested in having a look at it next time your over, we did have a 904 and 728 but some sod broke in and kicked them both a while back, never got round to replacing them both 😡

    Great model though

    Cheers

    Hi,

The Brunty Bucc XX900 that has neen doing taxy demos on previous open days will be running again in 2008, when these will be is still not confirmed.;)

The other Bucc XX894 is close to taxying infornt of the public, maybe Plazz could add an updade here ?

All of the taxying aircraft at Brunty are having insurance issues that are being worked on at the moment, so watch this space 😉

    Cheers

I believe there is a dark cloud on the horizon for both the Cranfield and Bruntingthorpe Lightnings. I have read that they are running out of Avpin, without which there will obviously be no more runs.

    Hi Steve,

John is correct its not the lack of Avpin that will stop us running first, Im affraid its the 3rd party lilablity insurance premiums, then servicable tyres, then brake chutes and then Avpin.
There are many other things within a Lightning that could stop us tommorrow if they were to go ‘Kaput’

But dont despair, theres always something out there, we/I are looking at the insurance issue at the moment.

We havent got this far in the last 19 years (20 years in June 2008) with looking on the down side of things, we have a Q shed to finish 😉

You just gotta take it one step at a time

    Keep the faith

Getting back to the subject of XR724 im sure ive seen photos of it being run in the last couple of months but they only ran 1 engine at a time.

Hi, I dont know of any runs recently, as far as I know Jan 07 was the last time, just a note anitdet running a Lightning is always done one engine at a time, No2 first 😉 never together.

Thanks for the the help. Is the one in his yard pretty much stripped as spares ship for 724?

Hi Peter, she was stripped for spares before the end of Binbrook so Charles brought a shell and transported to his garden in the village

    Hi Peter,
Charles owns XR725 which is in his back garden and as you probably already know is a major part of the Lightning Assoisiation which own XR724.

    Cheers
