Hi Peter, doubt she will be coming to Brunty, like firebird says, dismantling and moving a Lightning is far from easy and cheap both in money and time.
I have personally not heard anything about her moving anywhere.
She looks bad yes but our two would look the same if we didnt cover them in WD40 and wax oil every couple of weeks, they do dry out very quickly and begin to look sad.
MJR have you anything to add ?
Cheers 😉
Hi all,
Does anyone have any good pictures of either XS928 or 933 while in service at RAF Binbrook in the latter years i.e. 1980 – 1988??
This will be used to aid the restoration of ZF594/53-696 at N.E.A.M.
Phil
Hi,
Here’s a few of XS928 at Binbrook wearing two different tail codes

And one of her (her back end) at the last Last Lightning show in the rain

And here’s XS933 also at Binbrook

And here’s XS928 at Warton, in the last ‘line up’ photo shoot

Hope they help you out 😉
Very nice, thanks for posting that 🙂
Nice to see T5 XS458 at the head of the line up
Im here Im here, but MJR has all the answers, more than me, as he is closer to 422 than I 😀
Keep up the good work lads 😉
Lovely John, looks really well built, all you need now is he Q shed 😀
Cheers.
Andy
Does anyone know where ground power was connected on the ee lightning?
I know it was in the port wheel well, but does anyone have a clear picture of this?
Cheers
Hi gazz195, your correct the power connections (AC and DC) are plugged in the port wheel well, I dont think Ive got any shots of that area (its not something Ive thought about photograhing in the past 😉 )
But that said we are over at Brunty this coming Saturday to run 904 and to back them both into the Q shed (with a roof 😀 )
So I will get a load of detailed shots for you.
Hope thats OK for you.
Cheers
Hi all, here’s a shot of the current 747 taken while the Asda guys were applying the ‘decals’ in Aug 06

And here’s the original 747 in 94 the day after she arrived

😉
Hi ‘lindy’s Lad’
Glad you enjoyed your day, well done Max and Ritch,
Assume they showed you round the Q shed and the Lightnings ?
We wont be outside for much longer, 20 years in coming and my god has it been ‘fun’ 😀
Thanks all for your comments, this is how it felt for me
We we were stood with other ‘Saturday’ crowd the atmosphere was clam none of us said much, she taxied down turned round, stood there for iterally minutes, powered up and began rolling, I must admit at first it was kind of like one of our fast taxy runs which we see so many times at open days, but the power kept on coming and within seconds she was off and gently pulling away from the ground, and like I said I was shaking, I couldnt stop my camera hand, it was abit unreal.
We then stood there and watched her turn left and fly away, and then silence untill people around me began to clap.
We then stood and waited for her to return, with a slight tension in the air, then a spec appeared in the distance, a dark trail behind it (what carbon foot print;) ) she came in low and slow and did a perfect run though, turned left again, the gear came down and with in minutes she was down on terrafima again.
It was back to panting after that, sort of strange really.
I feel lucky to have been there when she arrived back in 93, watched her though the last 14 years while we have beavered away with our two and witnessing another stage in her life, long may it continue safely.
Im sure the invited guests and staff at the top of the hill were all over the moon and rightly so, they have done a outstanding job.
Keep smiling 😀
Very nice photos dude. Who owns the 2 seat Spit by the way?
Maurice and Peter Bayliss
Lovely shots John by the way 😀
Wow what a day, perfect weather for a perfect lady to get off the ground.
We were on site painting the shed and witnessed it all, Im still in a state of shock and awe, what a brilliant sight to see again.
Very well done to all the people involved 😀
Long may she turn heads
Thanks for the info Peter.
Just to thorw the clock back abit Ive dug these out of the albums, as requested by another forum member,
These were taken on 558’s delivery day 23rd March 93 after the crowds had dispersed

This one was from the May open day in 94, first thing in the morning

🙂
Speaking of Lightnings with a pulse, when is the next Brunters fast run day???
Fly Safe[/QUOTE]
Hi, as FMK.6JOHN says the open day in Sept was cancelled due to insurance issues with all the taxiable aircraft at Brunty.
We are working the insurance issue at the moment which should be in place for the new year so all being well we might have an open day in May 2008.
Im sure Brunty will be celebrating 558’s return to flight in some way, so watch this space 🙂
We need more funds now to get the Q shed finished (probably another 30-40K) so we have to keep pushing forward with pubic days and fund raising
All the best with XM173 by the way 😀
All the best Ben, have one for me 😀
Awful news, just got back from Brunty and heard on the news, my condolences to the pilots family, very sad, and on this day as well
