Hope you mean this one?
Thats the one ๐
Andy B just posted the pic for you
Rob
Keep up the good work
Will do, we are over there tomorrow, having a look at 904’s No2 starter snag, will be high on avpin fumes by the end of the day
Very nice thanks for posting. ๐
Would you mind posting that second shot on this thread;
http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=59505&highlight=LIGHTNING+QUERY
It gives a perfect example of the burning ‘hot shot’ sent down the pipe just after the nozzels have gone to fully open prior to the burner lighting, which is what I tried to explain.
You can just see the No1 has just lit and the No 2 is just a spilt second behind. Perfect and something we dont see alot of.
Cheers

Hi all, good news from the open day takings we took just under ยฃ11,000, brilliant, our best ever turn out, many thanks to all who attended.
So after insurance ยฃ5000, Fuel ยฃ1,500,Avpin ยฃ600 and many of the other costs related to holding these days we cleared a profit of just over ยฃ3000.
Great, but we still have a long way to go to reach the 30K needed for the floor, but its all in the right direction ๐
Thanks once again
Andy B (lpg)
Nige, holiday! you must be going soft, whats one of those????? you know me too well, but I was on my best behaviour though, honest ๐
Andy, August shouldnt be a problem, what are the dates again? AALO film camera man is investigating re agencies, as soon as I know more I’ll…blah blah blah.
Peter, I didnt take the footage, it was someone else. It may be a week or two before its ported across to DVD, but as soon as I get it, I’ll temporarily host it some where or forward on to you if ok with LPG?.
Milt, the date is Sun Aug 27th.
Look forward to hearing about the flim agencies.
As for the days footage host away fella ๐
Glad everything went ok Andy, my only disappointment was the fact that I was in South Devon on Holiday, thus this was the first LPG Open Day that I missed since 1996!!!! Ten years worth of loyalty out of the window ๐ก
Did Milt behave himself??
Milt was a perfect gent ๐
He got the golden spanner award for fixing a canopy snag at 6pm on Friday evening ๐
Hi Milt, would like to see the footage of the run when you get it.
As for Sunday yes we went over to just make sure all was OK which it was.
Then came home feeling dazed and confused (no change there then ๐ )
I must admit 904’s reheats were perfect, the noise and power were something to behold from our close view point.
Once again thanks for your input.
See you in August if your up for another weekend with the LPG?
Cheers ๐
Don’t worry mate, personally I love them, they look good and sound good. I’ve heard them being called ‘jet pigs’ a couple of times so the name’s kind of stuck in my head, plus it’s a lot easier to say than ‘jet provost’. Could swear there used to be a black and silver one there (as well as a piston provost), but yesterday could only see the two in red/white
Hi yes you are right there did used to be a black JP at Brunty, it was sold back in the spring to an unknown buyer, who dismantled it and roaded it out.
The piston provost had been on site for many years was sold back in the autum of 2005 to a buyer in Japan, who had it dismantled and shipped over there as a static.
Nev Martin of Phoneix Aviation owned both airframes and is down scaling his collection at Brunty.
Cheers
I had one of the best days of my life today……..
Met Jimmy Dell and John Spencer, strolled around the best collection of cold war jets that has ever been preserved in one place.
Saw the finest example of a Buccaneer on jacks demonstrating gear, flaps, bomb bay and bits, Hunters, Provosts, Wasp helicopter, and loads more stuff that my mind has still to get round.
I witnessed the best afterburner runs of not one but two of Britains finest mach two rocket ships and a formula one style tyre change that would put the best spotty herbert at kwik fit to shame!!.
My heart goes out to the LPG and I thank every one of them from the deepest darkest depths of wherever and plead…..keep it up guys!!!!.
Grinning wildly,
John.
Hi John, thanks for the kind words, sorry we didnt get chance to speak, you were just behind me (Im the one with the hat on) when you got us doing a ‘lightning’ wheel change.
I must admit that first run of 904 took our breaths away the burners were perfect.
See you soon
Andy B ๐
Hi all, just arived home after a very busy weekend, with a bumper crowd which brought in plenty of money, not sure how much yet but we definatley broke even.
To all the guys I met for the first time just like to say great to meet you all and sorry I couldnt spend much time with you all, I hope you all enjoyed it.
To MJR many thanks for your input and help, see you soon mate.
Sorry abou 904’s no2 going sick at the end, ‘thats Lightnings’ for you, though 7 out of 8 starts is a good record for us and the two old girls.
We will fix her before August 27th, when we intend to run her once, 728 will be on cockpit tours all day.
Thanks for posting some nice shots, we never get any ๐
As for Mike Beachy Head talking to the CAA I couldnt possibly comment its the first Ive heard of it.
Once again thanks to all who attended a great day thats got us a little nearer getting some concrete down in the ‘shed’
Cheers
Andy B ๐
Sat up all night shift trying to get an answer down in some sort of idiot speek but Andy B you have got it all there mate…….better than my mad ideas ๐ฎ .
Ok an easy one………What is the official endurance record for a single sortie on internal fuel only?.
I have read somewhere that one Lightning jock took and F.3 from Binbrook on a wide ‘racetrack’ style oval curcuit and upon landing on probably less than the minimums managed to exceed 2 hours flight time.
Regards
John.
Hi John, your on a roll now,
As far as my memory goes I would say no longer than 1hr 15-20mins on internal fuel, now your story of 2hrs seems slightly over done but may have been just possible with over wing tanks fitted and taking it very steady, but I doubt it.
I will do some digging for you
Cheers ๐
When did the Comet last make a run? I realy whant to get there to watch that and the Victor run someday.
Hi she last made a fast run during the August open day in 2006.
As far as Im aware she will be down to run on the next coldwar jets open day on Aug 27th this year
The Walton’s and the guys who keep her live are up against the same problems with fuel prices as us, its very costly to keep these aircraft live.
Last year a company called Prime Time Video produced a nice DVD all about Brunty’s aircraft, I have a copy and must say its well worth a tenna.
There is lots of taxy footage of all the aircraft and interviews with the likes of me ๐ฎ ๐ฎ
Have a look here http://www.ptvideo.com/videos/Aviation/coldwar.html

Andy
I should be able to make it – even though I’m still sat here sweating me reheat pipes off in Taipei’s current 41oC temp! There’s dedication for you!!!
Just for some inspiration (not that you LPG guys need any) I looked through my Lighting photo archives and found these 2 shots of XR728 when in service. Both taken at the ‘Brook’, first one in Sep 82, the other in Jul 85.
Also attached some shots of XS904 blasting up the runway last time I visited.
Hope someone will give me a high viz shirt and access to the other side again to shoot some similar shots which LPG are of course free to use. How can one find you on the day?
BTW – Victor and Comet not running?
Glad you can be there with us
Lovely shots thanks for posting
The shots of 904 just show how it is possible to harmonise the reheats, they dont always work like that though.
Have a look here http://www.lightnings.org.uk/ in the photo section just put the curser over the figures for my ugly mug, then on the day just ask around the guys in Green and Im sure someone will point me out.
And no the Comet and Victor are not running, fuel prices are stopping them.
Cheers

Andy,
I will be there early Friday morning to start getting our two jets sorted out for Saturday. As you can see from the photo we are stocking up for Friday/Saturday evening:diablo:
The eggs are just in case one someone should get hungry ๐
Make sure you guys come over and join us once youโve tucked the Lightningโs away for the night! That invite includes you too MJR if your still about!Francis
See you all on Friday Francis,
Save a cold one for me ๐
Andy, are you gonna need our tug?
TT
Thanks for the offer, but we will be using the ‘pink green house’ which is more than capable of pulling 16 tons,
Do you mean your little Trimuph engined thingy ?
I think it might expire if we tried to pull one of ours ๐
Cheers anyway
Andy
