Brilliant its so sixties, had to laugh at the snipet of the film showing the No2 engine going back in, shows how easy it was prior to RR adding an extra stage and not lengthing the engine bay, it then became a shoe horn job, see below
No 2 engine going back in 904 in 2004
Thanks 🙂
320psi, great pictures, she must have been a fantastic sight, thanks for posting…. 🙂
Thanks
Here’s a few more from the Bruntingthorpe end;
Taxi arrives early
558 arrives over head,(didnt have much of a camara at the time)

Shut down (notice the large crowd)
Classics together (once the crowds had gone 😉 )
From the spine of 728
Enjoy 🙂
yes – I remember the day well – It was very cold but when she taxied onto the hard standing and shut down everyone swarmed under her – and suddenly everyone was warm!
Ive got some great photos I took but can’t scan at the moment – pants!
320psi – did you fly in from cov on the dak? – I had forgot about the visiting dak – was it a planned trip or adhoc so to speak?
Hi, yeh great day, two of us LPG guys were invited to join the Walton family and a few other invited guests on the Dak the day before 558’s arrival, it was all very last minute.
We got to Brunt early, towed both of ours over to the pan where 558 was due to park then uncovered them.
The Dak arrived soon afterwards, we boarded and flew over to Waddington to watch 558’s start up and departure then few back to Brunt just before 558’s arrival.
One thing that sticks in my mind was the total lack of crowd control, like you say people swamed underneath as she shut down the crew were not best pleased, but what could a hand full of us do to stop all those people.
One guy brunt his hand on the one of the jet pipes after touching it 😮 😮
I have loads of Piccies from that very memorable day 😀 😀
After all the dust had settled and all had gone we got shots of the crew and got signed Sqd prints then we went down the pub with some of them for a beer, great stuff.
Just looked at the date and I had a flash back to standing on a very cold airfield – was it not today a few years ago that she landed at Brunty??
Spot on, a great day for all who witnessed it
Here’s a few piccies:
Waddington in the morning of 23rd March 1993

Bruntingthorpe afternoon just after touch down

Our ‘taxi’ for the day at Waddington

558 a few months after delivery
Great memories 🙂
Will be great to see her fly again, Im personally not bothered when just as long as its safe 🙂

what happened to the plan to paint the comet in boac colours?
How many Buccs are there at Bruntingthorpe, I have a video of one moving 2 years ago.
I pretty sure the plans have come to nothing re the painting, they have enough on going costs to contend with.
Repainting for the sake of a colour scheme is not even on the agenda, Unless someone comes up with the big sum of money to do it, which I very much doubt, fuel costs alone for all the aircraft on site are crippling at the moment. 😮
As for the Bucc’s there are three, XW544 which is at present a static exhibit, XX900 which is owned by the Waltons, and runs regulally and XX894 which is privately owned and is on her way back to full taxing condition, maybe Plazz could enter a little update here as he is more involved in her restortation than me.
Cheers 🙂

still one particular aircraft not covered yet Andy…………… and TT i do not mean what you think i mean……….if you know what i mean, know what i mean?
Silly me how could I forget such a lovely pair of Bruntingthorpe residents 😀 😀 😀

What’s the latest with the Sea Vixen? Will it be making an outing onto the runway this season?
Very much doubt the Vixen will be moving very far this year, there’s no dedicated crew on it, its just gets some TLC from time to time.
We keep the tyres blown up.
It needs alot of work before taxing can be allowed safely
🙂
Good photo’s, is XW544 still going to be made runable ?
Hi, as Im not to close to the crew who look after XW544 I carnt really comment, I know their long term aim is to make it runable, but when I couldnt possibly say, they have a long, long way to go.
The Navy Bucc is much closer to ground running and taxing, although this is still some way away.
The Guys are talking to us about doing Hyd system demos on our open day in July.
Cheers
Lovely pics thanks for sharing! What is the fate of the Super Guppy as she is looking pretty rough now. Also does the comet get run up regularly?
Hi Peter, thanks, got a few more to share soon.
The Guppy is your typical ‘large aircraft in a museum’, its very large, very difficult and expensive to keep looking respectable, the costs in just cleaning it are enormous.
Just sit back for a minute and think about how you would go about cleaning it safely….. Serious stuff eh ?
How ?
Who ?
Where ?
Who pay’s ?
There is also the a lack of dedicated people to look after it
Its an interesting dilmea for many museums
Yes the Comet is run regually, couldnt tell exactly who many times a year but yes its run when time, people and fuel allow.
Cheers 🙂
Hi James you can use any of the shots from our web site there’s also some nice stories here:

Hi again all, Ive been doing some digging and come up with a few more shots
XH568 sometime around 1994, with XH588 in the background

WK163 Landing at Bruntingthorpe at the end of its delivery flight

WT333 taxies in after final flight on the same day

WT333 and WK163 parked up in 1995

And WK163 just after repaint and nose change

Cheers 🙂
Here’s one of WT333 just after she arrived at Bruntingthopre

Cheers
Just to add to this thread, WT333 guys are doing great things, they have just fitted new brake units on both sides and run her regually, we have just gone in with them on a large quantity of fuel to fill our two Lightnings and WT333.
I got these shots on Saturday 15th October 2005, the lads were putting the finishing touches on the new leg that they had installed over the previous 3 weekends and also the new set of brake units all round.
Ready for a fast taxy soon, maybe our QRA open day in July 🙂

As for XH568 here’s a shot of mine from Nov 1993 when she arrived about an hour after Victor XM715, a great day and one that very few people witnessed 🙂

Cheers all

Just add ours in here as well
9th July 2006 QRA open day
Have a look here:
It’s nice to know this will help prolong the aircrafts life, but my word it looks horrendous!
I never said I liked it, I think it looks awful, but its not mine, I didnt pay for it and like has been said above it will give it a few more years, and not end up as tin cans.
