Many thanks to all for repling, I to have had many dead end conversations about my memories of this film with people over the years, and with your advice can now go and search out a copy for the collection, will let you know how I get on, the flim really had left an impression on my young mind at the time.
The B25 the crew members playing base ball and the one crew members ghost being left behind because his body was under the tail are all things I had forgot about the plot but have now helped, many thanks. 🙂
Cheers Andy
Just to add to this thread, here’s a few scanned prints of the 3 Gnats that visted Bruntingthorpe back in 1997 under very threatening skys for Nev Martin’s birthday ‘do’

Enjoy 🙂
Managed to get around to watching it last night, cringe city or what.
Couldnt watch it all, the ‘rapier’ fighters still had that Lightning look but I have to admit it just wasnt for me. 🙁
good excuse for a barbacue hey? egg and bacon a la jet pipe
mjr
The No1 jet pipe after a run does mince pipes to a turn, seriously 🙂
anti det run andy, or fast taxi? would be up in a shot, but got a messy job to do on sat, fueldraulic tests and tank pressurisation tests. Did port wing last week, all went without a hitch, but still went home stinking on jet A. Eau de Avtur! why oh why didnt we buy a nice simple twin seat hunter…………erm well we did, but it wasnt quite as alluring as a Lightning…. DOHHH!!
mjr
Antidet run only, fast taxing is only for open days, there’s no real gains with fast taxing, extra risk, cost, tyres, chute packing, runway clearing and hiring.
Its just a shake down of the old girls systems as per the the usual 4 – 6 week schedule.
Glad to see your getting your fair share autur after shave, lovely when you walk in a pub smelling of the stuff 🙂
Carnt beat the Lightning for allure
Cheers
That is good news it sold so well 580 GBP
The costs of running this beast will be astounding.
Heavy winter schedule of maintenance ahead.
Think of those poor sods out on a cold windy airfield struggeling with the guts of this lightning having to put it all back together every timethey finish work for the day, hope she is ready for next year.
any body got any idears??jb154
Great when you can earn some revenue though second seat rides we dont have that option, maybe strap a couple of seats on the wings, 😀
Might struggle with insurance 😀
Try running two of the beasts 🙂
Its never easy working on Lightnings in the best of conditions, outside makes it ten time worse, keeps you on your toes though 🙂
We go thouugh the same process of getting it all back together before night fall
Come along on Saturday for a our little run
What an awfull shock and a big loss to the avaition world.
Fly high Ray
condolences to the family and friends
I got one like that on Saturday as well earlier in the day.

Nice pix Andy – has the lightining bang seat bloke got in contact with you yet?
All the best
TT
Hi, Ben no I havent heard a word, almost forgot about it.
Still interested though
Cheers 🙂
Hi to all, while down at Brunty last Saturday 26th I got a few piccies of the latest edition to the Bruntingthorpe scenery.

And of course G-BKRN
Cheers 🙂
Hi to all, just had a few shots sent to me by the guys who are working at Leeming unbolting, 753 ready for here trip to Conningsby.
There’s a little update from Stuart Abbott quote;
On the road to coningsby today and tomorrow. only problems we have is the tailplanes wont come off. really really really siezed! had an 8 tonne jack pushing them. probably going to have to cut one off due to the road move. we will have to make some butt strap pieces to re-attach it back on. took us 2 weeks to strip it! i have had the joy of being in the upper intake and trying to get the front fuselage bolts off! 5 days that has took! wings are unbolted properly and everything is ready to go! hopefully by the end of next week, she will be looking like new again. as for the paint, because 753 is an 11 sqn association owned aircraft, not mod, the budget has had to come out of their pockets. we had to blag the paint job for free so the hawk/tornado colours were duly put on.

Glad she is in good hands 🙂
I think we the LPG better keep a low profile, 728 still has her two 30mm Aden cannons fitted, deactived when the airforce delivered her in 88 of course
Have a good trip, bring back some nice piccies
Popular pastime obviously, as Dave Roome claimed the same thing while with 74 at Tengah…….and I believe it may have been at the helm of now Cape Town based XR773, which was ‘his’ mount while with 74.
My apologies your right it was Dave Roome, my conversation with Brian was him telling me about Dave Roome’s climb to 88,000ft, although Im sure Brian did climb to high altitudes.
