Engines still in???? to be honest I have never looked but the last memeber of staff I talked too said they were putting a team together to maybe get her running? This was 2 years ago and how true this was I dont know…..but if there were ever an effort to get her moving I would be more than willing to help, the only other 2 lightnings near me are the ones at Aeroventure and I doubt either of these will make it to any form of live state
Good luck with that one
Have those members of staff got a clue about bringing lightnings back to life after 20 years ?
Shes gonna stay static, theres thousands of hours in what they ‘plan’
Cheers
Maybe getting engines? She was flown in what happened to the engines?!!
Guys I was under the impression she is complete, pipes and engines still in.
The owner keeps himself to himself though, Victor sim will know more
Shes always gonna be static Im affraid, she has stood way to long for any running idea’s
The LPG guys let you sit in their cockpits, and those aircraft air supposedly airworthy birds. I see no difference in arrangements.
Just put my two penath in here as your are talking about our Lightnings, just to put the record straight, and as David and Delta rightly point out our two are far from airworthy, taxiable yes, airworthy to 558’s standards, NO.
Knowhere near, not even in the same ‘ball park’
We are not going there, ok
Firstly our seats are not live, if they were, our visitors would not be sitting on them, I can 100% assure you of that 😉
They cannot allow people to ‘tramp’ around inside aircraft like 558, thats why they have the cockpit section in the hangar for that very reason
We own our aircraft, we call the shots, the CAA and the trust call 558’s ‘shots’ 😉
Thanks to Rich by the way for giving us a pat on the back, we are doing all this for fun and to keep the Lightnings alive and then protected for the long term its a hobby and we enjoy it, plain and simple
Soz to hijack the thread
Cheers
Nice one Milt, I dont envy you at all, been there
Keep it up mate 😉
‘T5 projects’
Owner, Russel Carpenter
Havent got a good shot of 458 soz
Nice one Milt,
Lightnings eh !!!!
Be a nice cold one for you 😉
Good luck
Chox Let’s not start the rumor mill going..
Andy, is Charles a forum member?? I was in contact with him last year regarding the lightning in his back yard but have since lost contact.
Peter I dont think so, a very private man is Charles.
Like ‘Bucc’ says MJR might know more than I 😉
Does anybody know what is happening with the Lightning Association. A once extremely active and enjoyable association to be involved with appears to be no more.
Although they appear at the Waddington airshow each year – Communication is non existent, website out of date – last updated 2004 and e-mails not replied to. As a member for a number of years a few words from somebody in the “know” would be appreciated!!
Thanks
Steve.
Hi Steve,
All I know is Charles Ross still ‘holds the fort’ as he is the only one we are able to have any dialog with these days, after that, ummmmm not sure sorry
Good luck 😉
Anyone know what any of the other Binbrook pilots of Ian Black’s era are doing now?
Dont kow all of their where abouts, but I know John Spencer enjoys retirement, golfing and fast taxying our two when we ask him, which he loves, he isnt in the best of health though.
Andy Williams (our first fast taxying pilot) still flys occasionally
Jake Jarron has retired and spends alot of time restoring clocks
Chris Berners Price (728’s delivery pliot) flys for BA and we still keep intouch with him, he may well come and taxy 728 again this year.
Im sure others will fill in the rest, as Im not sure 😉
If brian said it, you could take it as gospel. he was straight up, and as experienced as you could possibly get on Lightings. Brian confirmed that he did get to 87,000ft in an F53 in Saud. 95,000 has to be an exgeration. Brian was clear that @ 87,000 the 53 he was flying was almost uncontrollable, and wasn’t able to maintain the altitude for long.
Have to concure with Milt here, I spoke at length with Brian on this subject and many of his Lightning experiences over the 10+ years I knew him, Brain was a true gent, ‘straight as a die’.
Would never ‘over cook’ his stories
Great thread this one 😉
I think she was painted like that for a promotion / corporate day with Jaguar Cars that took place at Bruntingthorpe…
Correct 😉
Andy, you must have been standing a few feet away from me when you took that shot…..:D
Yeh, we were all there wernt we, us nutters
