Yeh must agree, that was good viewing 😉
Shes safely down at Brunty, chute flared.
Cheers;)
Nice up date Milt, thanks, keep it up 😉
Andy will probably be best to advise, but wasn’t there an upcoming work day on the resident Lightning at Binbrook to get her running again?
Peter, yeh your right I did mention we were planning a visit and MJR has it spot on we only planned to do a recce;)
There are no plans to get her running, just a ‘look see’ and a coat of wax oil
She has stood for so long now, there would be alot of work to do to ‘just’ fire her up, which equals lots of hours on the road to and from Binbrook.
We do plan to visit her some time soon, when I dont know, but as you can imagine we are stretched to the limit, with the twlight do coming up there’s lots to do behind the scenes for only a very small band of us, there’s also the never ending painting of the shed prior to the front doors rehanging, the servicing of ground kit and the constant work to keep our two alive, they are our first priority, 728’s ailments have taken up all the spring and summer and she aint fixed yet, she has some way to go.
We will get over to her but she’s gonna have to wait abit and ‘Binners’ aint people freindly in the winter 😉
Dont worry
Lovely Darren, really superb photos, glad to see 458 in full health and ‘our’ very own Dennis doing the honours 😉
If you ever want to visit us at Brunty to photograh our two and the Q shed just drop me a line 🙂
Also, big rich 110, if you ever fancy a visit just get intouch with me, or come to our twlight reheat run on the 15th Nov and see some real flames;) http://www.lightnings.org.uk/
Here’s a shot of 458 at a Binbrook photo call in 87

Loads more like that if your interested
Cheers
Just put my two penath in, well done lads, really great stuff she looks a peach ;).
Met PT a few times this year and what a great chap.
Back in late Aug when he was working hard on her, my son (six yrs old) and I wandered over one evening while we were camping at the Q shed on the weekend we put the pipes back in 728, he was so welcoming as we walked over, and the first thing PT said to my lad, Cameron, (Phil he sat in your Kettenrad a while back with the helmet on 😀 ) was ‘do ya fancy a sit in the seat boy’ in that drawl of his, my son was over the moon and we spent ages sitting there chatting with him, what a true gent.
I know my lad has a dad with aviation ‘interests’ but it was so nice to get him close to another ‘type’
Couple of pics I got while over there, cant find the one of Cameron in the ‘seat’

Im glad to say we have been giving him assistance with kit as and when he has needed it and we are more than glad to be of assistance.
Good luck with all that you guys are doing over their in the SRA hangar 😀
Might see you tomorrow
Thank you 320psi, it’s always good to know there is real support out there. We’ll be in touch if there’s anything we need.
Cheers,
C 6
No worries, one of your guys did get intouch with me and Rich a few months back asking which airframes were ‘possibles’, Im really glad you have secured 770.
Look forward to your updates on her progress 😉
Just dont paint the nose cone red like 753, I will even buy the green paint for you 😉
OK, the cat is out of the bag, XR770 is in our hands.
Yes it’s a shame we had to cut her a little but we’ll repair/replace that damage. Trust me I found it sickening, but time/money constraints forced our hand.
The “T-Bucket” at Lincair is staying with its owners and is safe.
We owe thanks and gratitude to the owner and his family for their hospitality and help, and hope we can make XR770 beautiful again.
Our deadline is Waddington Airshow 2009, but we have financial limitations~ie it has to be begged or borrowed!!

Let me know if you guys need anything, shall see what we ‘in stock’ if so 😉
Nice one;)
Exellent news well done all,
Great to see 770 back with 5sqd 😉
Good luck with the rebuild back to a good ‘cosmetic’ from all of us in the LPG 🙂
Here she is way back when

Really glad she’s now safe, someone’s gotta save XS919 now 😡
Cheers all 🙂
Well done Kurt, its a mamoth task aint it 😉
Whats the plans for the aircraft now ?
Hi Cirus, assume MJR has given you the low down by now.
PM me if you need any more advise
Good luck, hope she’s not to corrodied
Assume she has already been moved before properly ?
Cheers;)
Well done Peter and all, nice one 🙂
Any news on the future of XR724? Are the plans to relocate her still ongoing?
Hi, at present she’s stopping where she is. She is ‘safer’ at the mo
There are no plans to relocate, the ‘proper’ job is way to big and expensive, taking a Lightning apart, moving and rebuilding it back to ‘running’ is not for the faint hearted and ‘shallow of pocket’
There are are plans for some of us from the LPG to go over soon and give her a once over, waxoil, clean up etc and also do a recce to see what needs to be sorted prior to an anti det run some time before the end of 08.
Other than that there are no plans that I know of.
There’s nothing to worry about 😉
I will look out for that.
On another point of interest, and I know money is an issue here, but what is the likelihood of one of the Lightnings you have being “repainted” if that is the right word to use back to bare metal. Some of the squadron markings used in the 60`s were quite flambuoyant (Firebirds etc) even though some of the squadron markings wouldn`t be appropiate to the mark of Lightning you have there, maybe. Anyway, the Lightning looks better “natural” .
I would think bit of a crowd puller too. Just a thought.
Ohhhhhh good one, very emotive issue within the LPG, not a chance back to natural metal Im affraid, but you never know when we get this shed finished and its all ‘tight’ we might if time and money (the important bit) allows repaint 904 in silver, something for the future me thinks.;)
728 will always be in grey LTF markings, even if she one day gets a repaint (which she needs), as our first Lightning as it were I cant see her ever changing colour as she holds a special place in all our hearts 😉
Keep an eye out for more details on us here http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=48646&highlight=qra
🙂
Hasn`t the display at Bruntingthorpe this Saturday been cancelled?
Yes the BAH/Cold war jets day has been cancelled this coming Sunday, way to many stored cars on site at the mo, with the down turn in cars sales, Burnty get its bread and butter from this.
The LPG just take part in BAH open days, its not our event, we had our Jimmy Dell memorial/20th anniversary open day back in July to raise more cash for the Q shed, which Im glad to say put us in good stead for getting those doors on.
Thats why we are gonna be working on 728, we all have made plans to be there so might as well not waste the weekend and get those pipes back in 728.
The next time you might be able to see all the aircraft on site in action will be May 2009 or if you fancy abit of ear tingling why not come along to our static twlight reheat run in Nov 😉
More details on the QRA thread or on our web site nearer the time
Cheers
