Don’t know if they meant the High Sea’s type or the copying of DVD’s type though !!! 😀

thanks for the kind comments, and thanks to GA for pointing me to Level 10 of the carpark as opposed to 13 in one of his previous posts! 🙂

As for the zoom, I have only got up to 4 x digital zoom, nothing else… is this a problem, and if so, would you know how to rectify it…?

If you are planning on taking photographs of aircraft a lot then you really do need somthing with a good high OPTICAL zoom factor I’m affraid. The digital zoom factor, especially when used at its maximum settings, is not the best feature they ever put on digital camera’s.

The camera basically inerpolates what it ‘thinks’ should be there and the results are only ever satisfactory at best. (Software enlargeing using somthing like Photshop, is much better as it has the full power of your PC to do the work!).

Probably not the news you wanted to hear, but have play with the settings as I mentioned and get closer to those aircraft 😉

Looking atthe EXIF data stored in the images they are all ISO 50. This means that the sensor needs to be exposed to the light longer, thus the longer shutter times.

Try upping it to ISO 100 or 200, especially in days when it’s anything ofther than bright sunshine.

Also they all state that you are using DIGITAL ZOOM, this is not the best way to zoom in as the camera is trying to simulate a longer zoom by inserting additional pixels into the image (to make it look better), and this gives the fuzzy effect on the image.

Looks like the camera is also set in MACRO mode !

I’ll give it a whirl on Thursday as I’m flying in via VLM from Liverpool in the morning.

last time it cost me £35 in a taxi to get to Islington from the airport 😮

I use the GRE-282, will store upto 200 channels. Got mine on ebay for £40 with a few extra’s, they retail at around £90.

I can pick up landing aircraft (with an outoor di-pole) at MAN even when I’m a good 30 miles away!

I sat on row 13 on a VLM fokker 50 into London City a month ago. The plane was full except for this entire row, the stewardess asked if i wanted a window seat (as i was in a aisle seat on row 12). For some reson they where raise dup about another 10 inches from all the other rows too.

Thanks rdc1000, which UK airport do they operate to?

Looking at their website, it looks like they visit Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol an London (dosn’t state which one) in the UK and Dublin in Ireland, but I can only find internal destinations on the booking form!

Their website is very informative about the company and fleet, it’s here

With you Wozza, check the sun angle shadows of the blue pole and the lampost at the bottom of the picture and compare with the silhouette of the plane on the ground

Exactl what I was going to say, there is no distortion to the shadow of the 330 which would occur unless the sun was directly overhead, which it isn’t from the shadows of the lamposts. Looks like the shadow has been made from a mask of the A330 in photoshop!

I’d like to be disproved though, as it looks great!

Best shots you have posted in my view, superb!

Thank you very much…hopefully the improvement is due to shooting in RAW format, thanks to the addition of a few 4Gb CF cards 😉 , and the crisp sunny weather letting me use ISO 100 and ISO 200 which reduces the ‘digital noise’ in the images!
