Tough life?!! Oh what drudgery eh!
I’ll be facing you today!
Look forward to more pics from you. Will probably take me the rest of the week to go through the weekends hard work!

I’d be very surprised to see many people living it up in that Bremont hospitality tent. IMHO, it is a waste of space.
I walked past it when they were setting it up. Nice to see a fully polished aluminium cockpit seat, but who on earth had to sit there and polish it! I take it they make watches or something? I wonder how many they will sell.
Some stunning pics there! I feel the same having peaked early! Looks like I may have been standing very close by. I was the one in the white F16 T shirt with the Canon 450D. I’ll be up early to get in the paying side in the morning. What fantastic weather for it, but have to say it seemed all over in a flash. Glad to see the Avenger for the first time at Duxford, but I’ve definitely been to better shows at Duxford. When will we get more heavy’s rather than just Sally B at Flying legends?

A superb character in every sense. I approached him, last year a couple of sundays before FL and asked him if it was he I was speaking to, after an outing in his Bearcat. His reply was that he was the very Stephen Grey and that I don’t let his mother know that I saw him in flight gear. He came across as a truly great man, but humble and approachable at the same time. I guess that’s why there’s always a great atmosphere at Duxford.
Superb shots Anna, and what a fantastic day it was. Definitely a special day and certainly not your usual Duxford spring show!
The weather was certainly booked for the weekend properly eh?!!!
Hope to see more shots from the event, especially of “that” flypast!
Martin
Is there a reason why we don’t often see aircraft from his collection fly at Duxford airshows?
It seems I have only seen them fly at Clacton or the now non-existant Rougham Airshow.
Martin
Yeah I did see them! Nice photos aren’t they! I do think it looks better on tarmac. Agreed with you regarding the shot of it flying over XM603.
This airframe may get as famous as the real thing eh?!!
I’m cheating on this one, because its a half scale model:diablo:
TTFN,
Neil
That RC Tiger Moth was incredible! Was that taken at Rougham by any chance as I was there taking pics as well! That Lightning was exceptional!
Martin, Yes, it was me you saw… on my way home to Felthorpe. The weather was perfectly OK with about 7k vis and 2,000 odd ft cloudbase. The worst part was the absolutely freezing draught through the door ‘seals’! I had to have my travel rug over my lap. 🙂
Cheers helicopterdcr! It was nice to see an old biplane in the skies over Bury! My first historic aircraft sighting of the year. Shame there isn’t as much activity from Rougham as there used to be. Oh, I did mean north easterly! Hope to see your Hornet Moth again sometime!
All the best!
Martin
[QUOTE=DCW;1989654]Duxford Tuesday 12th February:
A pair of very different two-seaters visiting this morning:
I saw that Hornet Moth lunchtime flying across Rougham on Tuesday and thought it odd to see a biplane flying in such miserable weather! Distinctive sound to it! I’m assuming that’s what I saw anyway! It was travelling in a north westerly direction. Wherabouts would it be based?
Martin
Thanks David for that superb thread of history on the “Kittyhawk”! Really kind of you to share that information with us. Really excellent to learn the meandering background to such a rare beauty. Look forward to the next scheme that she will be wearing.
I hope to see some historical background to the next P-40 arrival at Duxford! All I know is that it will be a shiny one & can’t remember off hand what version of P.40 it is. I gather that Mr Grey likes P.40’s a lot! 🙂
Any-one have any idea when it will arrive at Duxford?
Martin
Somewhere down in the Bath area there is a Westland whirlwind fighter half under a pub car park and half under the bowling green.
There is another Whirlwind rear fuselage and bits in a private back yard collection somewhere in devon/cornwall after being brought up by a trawler ?.
I am going to win the lottery and buy the ex RAF radar site this weekend.

Talking about pub car parks, I hear rumor of a B-26 under the Flying Fortress Pub car park! Or is it some B17 engines??? 😀
Hi,
many thanks for all your comments.
To answer a couple of points,
The main lens I used was a Sigma 150-500, which I only bought a week before this show. Although heavy, I soon got used to using it and have found it essential for airshows and avaition in general since then. It’s particularly good at Duxford.
This show was a celebration of Saab’s 75th Anniversary, but the previous Malmen show also included the Swedish AF Heritage flights fleet, and they are always flown with enthusiasm.
Having the show at Malmen also gives the bonus of the fantastic Flyvapenmuseum, if you have an extra day to spare.
We flew with Ryanair from Stansted to Gothenburg City (home of the Aeroseum) which is a few hours drive away from Malmen but you can easily add the museums at Ugglarp and Angelholm in.
Thoroughly recommended, and I shall be going again in two years time if they do it again!
Cheers
Alan
Brilliant, thanks for sharing Alan, really love the Viggen taking off shot!!!! 😉
An air show opportunity not to be missed, and yes that is a heavy lens for an airshow! A friend of mine has that in use along with a converter, but my Sigma 80-400mm is enough for my weedy arms!
Martin
Simple! For me it would be Honington & Wattisham, both for obvious reasons….Honington for Canberras, Valiants, Victors and then the Buccaneer.
Wattisham – do I need to spell it out! 🙂 If only I had been into aviation when they were active at these stations! I mean, I watched them fly over with admiration, but wasn’t as fanatical as I am now! Oh and having a high end digital camera back then would have been handy!
How could the Air Fair at two days get in the way of business, or in other words make a dent in a years worth of revenue? So, didn’t the Air Fair bring much in the way of income to the Airport despite being packed on those two days? If I can travel for an hour to Shuttleworth for something similar then what would entice me to travel 4-5 hours to Biggin Hill for this planned show, especially when I can see most of the aircraft on display at Duxford during their shows as well. I’m not entirely convinced that this will be a winner for the future of Airshows at Biggin. Maybe for those who live within an hour or two who never venture north of London, this will be of interest.
I do miss the Air Fair, but don’t believe it was stopped because of loss of Business revenue, it’s not as if Private flights stopped totally on airshow days.
