Saw that Chinook bomb past Bury St Edmunds around 12:50, plus a lot of Apache activity & one very low over the house near the Rougham Airfield. One thing I regularly saw going around every so often were three stunt planes, I first thought it was the Blades, but those Red Bull stunt plane (what type of AC are they?) may be what I saw. Also heard a multi jet flypast over Bury but didn’t see them & have no idea what they were. Loads of people in the street were looking skywards. Anybody have an idea what this was?
Saw one of the T-28’s flying around Cambridgeshire today. No doubt someone on here was at DX today and captured it! 😀

Saw it take off while I was having my chicken frikasee. It touched down just as I finished me dinner. Then I took some pics of the Stampe G-AYGE which took off and did a little flying around, nothing aerobatic. First time I have actually seen her fly in all the times I’ve been going. Who owns it by the way, and has it been regularly flying recently as I only get to visit about once a month?
Also met ex 50’s Dutch Thunderjet pilot Fred Daams which was very interesting. Gave me a calling card with a photo of a replica Bleriot XI which he built & donated to the Westwood Aircraft Museum, Pueblo Colorado. A lovely guy to talk with. http://www.spitfireaircraftco.com/fred.htm Every time I visit Duxford I always seem to meet people of great interest, visiting from all parts of the world.

Any-one have an idea what this was, floating around while those Typhoons were inspecting/intercepting that accidental distress signal then? Is it a flare?
Wasn’t sure, but some-one would have a good idea?

[QUOTE=slicer;1858650]A series of memories of this awesome aircraft seen at Mildenhall Air Fetes…1987 was the last time I saw an SR71 at the Hall. It really was a fantastic experience, thanks to the crews and Det 4 for letting us share it.
Fantastic pics there! Cheers for putting them up, you can almost feel, hear & smell it!

remind any one else of the scene from flight of the phoenix?
It certainly did, during that first engine start up. So it wasn’t just me then!!
Superb looking aircraft. A tricycle version of a DC-3 – roughly I thought.
Here is a rather confessional account of a SR 71 flypast.
I think it might have been Clophill Fete (Beds) which I have heard was quite startling……. snippety snip
Walt just shook his head and said, “It was probably just a routine low approach; they’re pretty impressive in that plane.” Impressive indeed.”
Superb story thanks! I dare guess what sort of news that would have made in todays media! Claims etc etc, oh dear I shudder to think! Would be interesting to hear the experience from the kids point of view!

How un-sporting of them to wake you up like that, as if you were doing any harm!
As for being sunburnt, I can’t remember the last time I was sunburnt in May!
Always seem to remember the Air fetes being scorchers especially during late 80’s early 90’s.
The main reason why I posed the original question is because I used to go with a pal back in the late 90’s & can’t remember the year, but I swear, that it was another scorching morning, the Cavalier engine was close to over heating (yes in the morning) in the queue & I’m sure I remember an SR-71 flying over & going in to land. This definitely was the 90’s.
Black Night, I am unsure about a lot of things, but the very last show at Mildenhall was in 2001, that i do know. A C17 flew there for the first time I believe, a B.1 & B.52 were flying as well as a Gripen display. Only my memory is a bit foxed as to the SR-71
I did cycle from Sudbury to Mildenhall in 86 to see the Blackbird then. Some things stay in your memory & some things go hazy, but I do remember the commentator saying if they activated full re-heat during that west to east pass, the aircraft would have taken roughly 4 minutes to reach the Dutch coast. And also remember the Oxygene soundtrack.

When I was last there (September airshow) a young lad was painting the green onto the main wing flaps, so I asked him if he knew what the final scheme color was going to be & all he could say was that it was going to be desert colors. Wether he was telling porkies, I guess we will just have to wait & see.

Ahh one of the most beautiful jet fighters ever built! To me the F.1 like a cross between the Fairey FD2 & the Jaguar! Stunning shots!
Looks like it’s going to be another stunner of a show! I saw the F16 fly directly over my house en-route to Duxford today & was wondering if it was able to land on the hard runway, or wether it was actually going to Cambridge to stay for the weekend. Very pleased to see the Blenheim sitting comfortably at last!
Excellent photos as usual & looking forward to the blue skys at Duxford this weekend!

I have a friend who works at the museum there & I do know that they will be taking responsibility for the 70th anniversary celebrations of the 8th Airforce arriving in the UK & arranging for some old timers to visit next year. I think that was the plan, so I guess the museum will try and make sure that happens. That’s all the news i know so far.
Recent reports on BBC news online regarding Taranis under testing & evaluation in the UK. Maybe that’s what people have been mistaking for a UFO? Also heard rumor that this may have been responsible for that damaged wind turbine blade a while ago. Whilst on the subject will the manufacture of this be in the UK & will it safe guard UK jobs?
I spoke to the estate office on Monday, There are no plans for any events in 2012….Sad News
Now that I didn’t want to hear! Well that’s another great airshow gone 🙁
seems to me that seperate people run the Air show ,does anyone know who runs the shows at Rougham ?? It would be a real shame if it all comes to a close
It would be a great shame indeed, for aviation fans in the viscinity, trade for Bury St Edmunds (the town must benefit), and for traders & display participants.
