Wow. It could well be G-ABPE as it transited through the area (to Malaya and back) over the period and area of the photo collection and it spent a lot of time on RAF aerodromes. It’s colour scheme is at odds with the photo in “Ultralights” though.

The use of the Swastika device by 84 certainly predates it’s use by Adolf’s mob.
It is well documented as used by many ancient civilisations and at least two Baltic states.
I’m guessing but the Squadron use of the device is it’s association with the local area such as Ur where it was based from the earliest 20’s and first carried on their DH.9s.
Beautiful photo. keep them coming please. I’ve just noticed the “erk” by the rudder. We might start a Mid -east thread as I have a few photos from the 20’s in that area. K1127 joined 84 in 1932 at Shaibah Iraq and it later went to 55 Sqn and was struck off charge in 1934 .

The AX serials given to the Goelands (and Simoun) were apparently not taken up though the one written off at Sealand was allocated AX776.
John
The only info that I have is for 3 Caudron C445 Goelands which were held at Odiham in 1940 they were transfered to Sealand for dispatch to FF forces but one belly landed and was SOC. The other two went abroad to mid east on SS Thurland Castle.
No 2 Signals School at Yatesbury became No2 Radio School in 1943 operating Proctors I, II, and III and Dominies

Wasn’t this one made for a film and was at la Ferte Alais?

do you have an NGR for the one at Blakeney, I didn’t know of it and was planning to head up to the North Norfolk coast in November sometime (yes I know it’ll be cold!!!)
Thanks again for the info, keep it coming!
It’s easy to find, go into the National Trust car park (Carnser)and follow the path out and up the side of the creek and you will see it just to the water side of the path. It’s only a couple of hundred yards at the most.
John
Suspect it was white with red and either black or grey trim but can’t be sure as it didn’t survive for long, being written off in the Lock Haven floods of 1972 I believe.
On another topic, from the dimmer recesses of my brain (and there are few dimmer places:  ) I vaguely recall that Sheila Scott used at least one other aircraft, which she called ‘Myth Sunpip’. I know it might seem unlikely and illogical compared with ‘Myth’, ‘Myth Too’ and the Aztec ‘Mythre’ but can anyone verify whether this was so and identify the aircraft concerned?
On the other hand I could be completely mythtaken….
Wicked Willip :diablo:
Myth is a female Moth. I was fortunate to meet the lady at Luqa in Malta and somewhere I have her autograph.

Today I was astounded by one of my colleagues, having been ‘bored to tears’ over years with my talking about historic aviation, he arrived with a supurb collection of photo albums of his grandfathers brothers (grand uncle ?) RAF career, this seems to stem from, possibly mid 1930’s, until mid 1960’s.
At the moment I would rather not suggest posting any of these superb and sometimes large, very good quality, photos but that is always a possibility.
There are photo’s from Iraq, Egypt, and many unknown locations possibly including Mildenhall ?
My Quest tonight is to give you all a taster and to answer some questions on notes I have taken on just some of these wonderful pictures ?Photo 1. K1127 (could be K0127) is this a Westland Wapiti ?
Photo 2. Three Comper Swifts in a hangar G-ACTF, G-ABPE, and one with no visible markings ?
Photo 3. Avro Vulcan XA906, possibly at an airshow, Farnborough ?
Photo 4. XP972 P1127 ? possibly at same airshow ?
Photo 5. Two large single engined aircraft L2691 and L1414 ??????
Photo 6. G-AAUC “Horsa” HP-42E ????
Photo 7. VT-AFM “Viceroy of India’s Aircraft” ??????
Photo 8. NC12229 “American Visitor” I think this is rare ????

Keith Newsome.

Addendum NC12229 was a Lockheed Orion which crashed in Rhodesia. F-ALZ formerly PH-AGX of KLM sold to France 1931.
I was just relying on memory, it’s 264.

The Cooke Post
Have you found this one at Blakeney, it’s one of a pair of starting posts for dinghy races. He was a Defiant pilot, lost off Dunkirk. 263 Sqn.

Vampires, “27” was an FB.9 and was from Cranwell. I have a photo of it at Syerston.

The polished bird is a Spartan 7W.
A couple more from Goodwood. The “6” attracted all the pretty birds.

I have just looked at close up photos of the Wellington tail wheels in the 4+ book, and they are identical to the later type in all respects. The horseshoe shackle at the top is the retract fitting.

Hannover CL.V or FF.7 in Norwegian use.
The cockpit section is from a Norwegian built Hannover CL V the FF.7. Too late for the germans to use in WW.1. The Norwegians built 14 and used them up to 1929.
