The aircraft following the Neptune is a Flamont.

No, the Dassault MD-315 Flamant has a pronounced dihedralled tailplane and a much rounder fuselage. It is an SNCA NC-702 Martinet.

The escorting French type is a Martinet which is a derived French built Siebel 204 and the second shot is a Douglas C133.

    Page 809

In one of my large notebooks I use for research I wrote several years ago that I should locate the above page.
Does anyone have a copy to hand and can tell me what’s on the page?

Page 809 Royal Air Force and Naval Flying News. McEvoy, Chaplin in Chief, Valiant scramble, round the world Comet 2, Senior posts, UAS control,
    In Brief were the headings.

Thank you Blue Robin. I should have known as my son in NZ has a Fisher Horizon 2 and he had mentioned he’d looked at a Tiger replica.

How bloody dangerous can you get?

It’s a very odd looking Tiger (despite the flat four) as the cabane is distorted and the u/c looks more Cub-like. Presumably a replica?

I have a copy of the care and maintenance for the Gipsy Six, but the Queen III would be usefull, is it available or can I borrow it to copy. I keep looking on eBay but none turn up for the Queen II ( unless I missed a posting)
I am after the Queen II as well because it has the information on the fittings for the VP prop and I want to know how it compares to the Gipsy Six which according to my manual says is for fixed pitch props only.
These manuals are to help with the engines for the Comet and a Mew Gull replica.
    Many thanks

    Ken

The Gipsy Queen III does not have any reference to a VP prop fitting. You may borrow them if you wish. Just a thought, but do Newark have any manuals with their Dove. PM me if I can help.

Thank you, I was responsible for it. Though mine is on a bunker at Noirmont Point on the South West coast.

Thats the one, couldn’t quite remember the positioning. Thank you for putting it there.

Ah but the memory can play tricks.

An FAA pilot did come down near Lihou island, not in a Corsair, but in a Hurricane however this was not an 87 Sqn Hurricane that was a seperate incident.

    A few more

    1663 OCU Halifax V on 28/03/43, also a B25 mid 1944 .

276 Sqn Spitfire II clashed with FW190’s on 13/06/43 and came off worse. The pilot paddled ashore in Jersey.

Piccadilly Commando was from the 508th squadron of the 351st BG, all the crew survived the ditching.

There is a plaque to two Whirlwind pilots at the large German gun position on the coastal cliffs (North west).

Now ther’es another machine I’d like to see in the air. Can we get one in flying condition in time to have another Sea Wings in 2010 with her present?

When I was in Malta 69 to 72 there were a several Sea Otter complete wing spars half buried at the Mdina end of Ta’Kali airfield. I measured them at the time to compare them with the plans in Aircraft of the Fighting powers to distinguish if they were Otter or Walrus and the sweep of the spar roots made them Otter.

    Airframe panel colours.

If you mean the yellowish areas on the fuselage, its etch primer – not ‘gunge’ – its applied with a spray gun rather than a trowel.

Thanks for the reply. I rather gathered it was primer, Gunge was my tongue in cheek description, but what interests me is the different shades. There has been much conjecture in modelling circles as to the colours of the panels in the old black and white photos of the prototype Spitfire in it’s first rollout state. There are distinct shade differences to the various panels and some are apparent in the photos above.

You’ll probably find it’s down to the age of the picture and the lighting. The paint was probably a pale brown (sand) colour

No I’m positive that’s Yellow. I have no knowledge of sand/brown Whirlwinds.

She made two fights today with Jonathan Whaley at the controls.
There seemed to be a bit filming going on too (restoration DVD maybe?) and some air to air with a Harvard.
    All good stuff.

Can anyone tell me what anti corrosive finish (gunge) has been applied over the natural metal in this unpainted state ?

    Cheers

Can you identify this helicopter and its location?

My guess would be a S.A.R H.A.R. 2 Whirlwind in Cyprus. Possibly 284Sqn or 155 in the Far East.
