This would appear to be a British built Avian IIIA sold by Air Associates Inc of NY and is License No 392, Owned by M A Northrop (the designer) and flown by film star Lya de Putti. So 1928 or 29. Early Cirrus engines had american rotation hence my thought that it was a Whittlesey product.

The Whittlesey Company only started manufacturing the Avian in 1929 at Bridgeport Conn.

This is where the RAF Museum should be relocated from Hendon. Just a pleasant thought. They would get more money for Hendon.
John
It’s probably a Whittlesey Avian, note the prop rotation.

From what I can glean from a Rumanian language publication this particular a/c was used by Lt Com Gheorghe Banciulescu (an amputee after an accident in Czech in 1927)for long range flights around europe. Powered by a Salmson 9Ab and it carried an armament of a Vickers and two Lewis.

The Ottawa Car Manufacturing Co did all of the Atlas and other AW work. It seems a pretty logical and common thing to do in Canada, to fit coupe tops.

This is rare. It’s a SET4/41 from Rumania.
Please can someone pick up the thread as I am still unable to post scans.

Did you notice Staniland Drive, named after the Fairey Test pilot and racing driver?
Excellent television for a change. I exceeded my normal 1 hour a week expected total viewing last night.

Looks like a Rowinski No10. And the a/c behind is a Curtiss Fledgling.

Spot on. Over to you.

This should be relatively easy. It wore RAF roundels as a military aeroplane ,but wasn’t RAF.
