Parachutes and More Parachutes
Along the same line, why weren’t British paratroopers issued with reserve parachutes until 1949?
During WW II, Canadian paratroopers used reserves when training with the US at Fort Benning, with the First Special Service Force (Devil’s Brigade), and back home at the Airborne Centre in Rivers, Manitoba, but not when training at Ringway or under British command (1st Canadian Parachute Battalion) in the 6th Airborne Division.
Was it a matter of pure economics?
ACROSS THE POND
Would you settle for a 707?
B-17s
From this morning’s
Glacier Girl and Liberty Belle at the Paul Tibbets birthday party.
Yeah, Yak 11 Fan, had to go after the camera.
And, DazDaMan, I also a pilot, so tell Johnny for me that there aren’t too many “perfectly good” airplanes out there.
AIRPLANES
Well, I’ve always been interested in airplanes, ever since I was a kid growing up in Vancouver. My dad would take me out to the RCAF base to watch the Vampires and Mustangs take off and land, but I didn’t start taking pictures of airplanes until I borrowed my brother’s half-frame 35 Ricoh for a trip to Alaska …..
NASM
The Shuttle is still there, being prepped for display. It’s unbelievable how huge it is. Sure dwarfs the Sonex my neighbor’s building in his garage.
Thanks, HP 57 and Italian Harvard. I’ll check out the website. And, yes, dig out the drawings when you get chance to do so. Anything will help. Thanks.
Thanks. Do you have the link or URL ? Can’t seem to find Aero-Art.
Wassa Dyson?
COCKPITS
Hope the guy complaining about Hendon doesn’t get off on the dust again … this is the Bf 109G on display at NASM Downtown. Looks a bit dusty in there but then again, this airplane has been sitting in the same spot for at least the last 25-odd years that I know of.
It’s one hell of a climb into the cockpit to fire it up!!
MORE AIRnSPACE
Here’s more detail on the F-16
More Air & Space
Yes it is, and you can barely make out an FA-18 under the wing of the F-84.
The FA-18 was the one used by NASA for research, as are many of the aircraft and spacecraft on display. I’ll check for more pics – the lighting with the open ceiling makes for difficult photography. My last visit was made to specifically check out the P-39 on display but I was greatly disappointed to find it hanging high up on the roof and completely unaccessable. As I said, the lighting isn’t the best – maybe somebody can clean it up with Photoshop.
