What ever happend to the Yak 1 G-BTZD from HAC. 😎 I am curious to read an update on that project. I’m shure HAC is still doing a great job on this bird, but it has been a while since I heard something about it.
2007?
Greets,
Stieglitz
I also would love to hear an update on the YAK-1. I have asked here before, with no luck. I tried to email the HAC, at the address given on the web site. But my emails get bounced back.
Who is the generous owner of this aircraft?
The one thing that really got my back up was a so called enthusiast berating a Fighter Collection engineer because the Beaufighter was up for sale and others have been sold .
There are improve the collection arises its likely that he will take it.
This guy who was saying his bit,was moaning that it was an out rage that this national treasure could end up with a wealthy american collector, well i’d say ‘PUT UP OR SHUT UP’ Get the money ,get a licence get it finished and you fly it,but don’t criticise a man who has done more for the warbird movement in the UK than most of us ever dreamed could happen, just make the most of what you are seeing.
That airplane has been sold to TONY RAFTIS of AUSTRALIA.
Glad to hear all involved are Ok. Next question is how easy is it to replace a canopy for that type and that quick?.
Especially if the aircraft is supposed to be participating in an air show, let alone getting it home again.
With a replacement canopy and frame it can be installed in 5 minutes. That is as long as the rear latch isnt damaged. The P-51 canopy is really easy to remove and install. But you have to be careful on the installing part. If the latches arnt set to receive the canopy it wont be correctly latched in place.
The frames are pretty common and go for about $2,500 US. A new blown bubble about the same, Assembly 8-10 hours, instl to aircraft 5 minutes.
I wouldnt want to be under that thing when it hit the groud. They weigh about 25-30 lbs, but have some sharp edges that would cut you in half.
I sure enjoy the monthly updates. I cant wait to see the wing start taking shape.
I purchased a copy of #16 on EBAY about 4 months ago. Just keep a eye out there and one will turn up.
I can only say about what it costs in the US. To fully insure a WW2 fighter for about 1 million USD. Its about $35,000.00 usd.
Thats for a pilot with a decent amount of time. But low level aerobatic displays would not be covered by this policy, nor air racing for that matter.
YES
I dont remember the guys name but it was a crash recovery.
There were a few pictures of its tailcone in the last year or two
in AIR CLASSICS.
Merlins came out of the factory (RR and american)
painted all black. The reason they are painted grey or red or whatever now, is because finding oil leaks on an all black engine is a nighmare.
You all seem to forget of the car that went mach 1 in 1979.
And why do you all hate amercans so much ?
